Crazy to go from the rotation we’ve had the last few years to having 2 all star starting pitchers.

Hopefully they lock up Derek Johnson for a very long time.

Re: Sonny Gray replaces Scherzer on All-Star team

Congratulations to Sonny Gray--an unexpected, but welcome, addition to the NL roster. I always think it's good when a first-time All-Star (in this case, Castillo) can go to the game with a teammate who has been there before (Gray) and can show him the ropes. Last year, it was Votto being the veteran mentor for Gennett and Suarez. In 2017, it was Votto and Cozart. And in 2016 it was Bruce and Duvall.

Wow! That's great. Now let's go into the All-Star on a high note tomorrow with a win.

I dont follow the Reds as closely as most do here but isnt this a bit of a suprise pick?? His numbers to me anyway dont scream AS.

Yes, I was very surprised. His traditional numbers certainly do not stand out (they aren't bad, but hardly seem All-Star worthy), but I am not well-versed in the newer statistics and analytics, especially for pitchers. So maybe he grades out much better when those are considered.

Putting way too much thought into it gents, he’s pretty solid and available to pitch.

Yeah, isn't it a shame a guy who has had his era up over 3.xx gets to pitch in the ASG despite actually having done a phenomenal job of late?
The only real fair thing about the ASG when it comes to rosters is the managers get to pick the pitchers instead of some town who gets to vote in a guy based on popularity regardless of how terrible they might have been the previous month or two..

His FIP this year is lower than his 2015 season where he finished third in the Cy Young voting. That contract extension is looking pretty good right now.

They did have to replace 3 pitchers.

Congrats to Sonny and Roark could easily have made it as well as his numbers are very similar. Crazy that we have 3 starters that are All-Star worthy after last year.

Good Job by Dick Williams trading for two all-stars, Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray.
