Reds at Braves. Harang gives us 3 runs in the bottom of the first and another in the 5th. The Reds were held scoreless until the 8th when they would score 3 with a Phillips double, Votto single, Rolen double, and Stubbs single.
They tied it up in the top of the 9th with a home run by Chris Heisey.
Nick Masset comes on in the bottom of the 9th and the game is over after a Prado single and a Heyward double.
Reds lose 5-4 and their record goes to 23-17.

In 1976 on this date the Reds beat the Giants 5-4. Tony Perez had a pinch hit two run single that proved to be the inning runs. Rookie Sensation Santo Alcala moved his record to 3-0 in the win. Reds are only 1/2 game behind the Dodgers in the NL West.

In 1990 Jack Armstrong had a complete game shutout of the Cardinals,4-0. Rolando Roomes drove in 3 of the 4 runs for the Reds. The Reds have moved to 8.5 games ahead in the NL West.

Reds score 24 (!) runs on 28 hits and allow 12 runs on 15 hits.
Sean Casey with 5 hits, 4 runs, 6 RBI, and 3 walks.
Denny Neagle only went 1.2 innings, giving up 6 runs.

That was a day game. I was in line for the first day of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace while that game was being played. I was disappointed with Jar Jar Binks and nine-year-old Darth Vader, but it was new Star Wars content for the first time in 16 years.

According to Baseball Reference.com the Reds rallied in the bottom of the 7th when, with one out, Johnny Bench singled and Lee May then walked. Bernie Carbo then tripled to right field, scoring both Bench and May. I'd love to see video of that play. As I recall Lee May was not the swiftest runner. For him to score all the way from first base would've been fun to watch.
