    Geno Suarez: Rising Star

Lately I’ve been hearing more and more fans touting Jose Iglesias as the Reds most valuable player so far this season.

While I agree Iglesias has been a valuable addition, he is having a fine start this season. I truly believe as a position player, Suarez has been the Reds MVP during the early going of 2019 with Castillo most valuable pitcher.

Who is your pick for Reds MVP so far?

I guess it depends on your definition of MVP, but Dietrich would be my vote. Eugenio is doing what we've expected and could easily be argued that he's MVP. I'm not going to argue against it, but we're not struggling offensively because of Scooter's absence. In fact, DD is first in OBP, SLG, (and obviously OPS) and more than filling the void so I'd say DD just for devil's advocate.

DD is 2nd on the team in RBI by 6 despite being 8th on the team in PA.

Suarez and Castillo get my vote too.

    Both should easily be All-Stars.

I've been a fan of Suarez since he was with Detroit. And he's come here and put in a tremendous amount of work to get even better. It's great to see it paying off for him.

    Re: Geno Suarez: Rising Star

Third baseman Eugenio Suárez was an emerging star for the Reds in 2018. This season, Suarez is showing signs he could be their main man as he repeatedly provides big hits. This week, he helped his team take down a first-place division rival.

During Cincinnati’s 4-2 victory over the Cubs that clinched the three-game series Thursday, Suarez had two hits -- one providing the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and the other driving in a key insurance run in the seventh. On Wednesday, he had three hits and three RBIs -- including a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth inning before the Reds took a 6-5 win in 10 innings.

Since May 1, Suarez has raised his batting average 49 points, from .221 to .270. Over his last seven games, he’s batting .452 (14-for-31) with three home runs, four two-hit games and two three-hit games.

Not coincidentally, the Reds have won five of their last seven games and have closed their deficit to 6 1/2 games behind the first-place Cubs in the National League Central.

yea can't wait to show my kids videos of these 2 when I'm older and then get to explain to them that we got these two for a couple of guys we claimed off of waivers.
The television crews left and about 10 reporters remained in the room. That's when Price took his turn doing the talking.
What followed was a five-minute, 34-second expletive-filled tirade. The final tally was 77 uses of the "F" word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).

He's on pace for 40+ HR and 110+ RBI which is similar to his pace last year if he didn't miss time.

To me Castillo has been the team MVP, best player, this season, and it hasn't been that close.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

So far the season has been saved from disaster by a big 4 - Suarez, Castillo, Dietrich and Iglesias. Subtract any one of them and you could figure several more losses. Suatez I expected, Castillo I hoped for and DD I figured his bat would be useful but Iglesias has been a real surprise....stellar D that glues the whole infield together and a timely clutch bat.

Castillo would get my vote for MVP. Best position player has been Suarez...by far. He's not only sensational but very consistent as well.

He was last season's Red's MVP, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he is the Red's 2019 MVP.

I'd be curious if there is a listing of all the past Reds MVP's...these are awarded by local sportswriters? That would yield some fun and lively debates I'm sure.

Suarez is my guy all the way. I think that he has just scratched the surface of his potential. He can consistently be a 40-45 HR guy for 6-7 years straight.
