If a team offers below slot, do they still get pick compensation?

weird stuff will happen. but not a guy who almost everyone is predicting will go 5th will slip all the way to 12th. unless he's caught using a maryjane gas mask like laremy tunsil right before the draft.

Who is on your wish list for our 48th and 65th picks in the draft?

Here are a few college players I am interested in. Most will likely be gone by 48 but you never know..

Nick Loftin SS, JT Ginn SP, CJ Van Eyk SP, Austin Wells C, Justin Foscue 2B/3B, Casey Martin SS, Aaron Sabato 1B, Burl Carraway SP

the more i think about this, the reds just need to be true to their board. there will likely be a player that falls into their lap at 12 that they did not expect would be there. take the best player available. drafting based on need is dumb even in football, and those guys will be playing right away as rookies. in baseball, these guys are all a long way away from making the majors. just take the best player who falls into your lap at 12. don't overthink it.

    For the 48th pick:
If Justin Foscue drops, he's a no-brainer. Great hit tool and can play a premium defensive position.
Carmen Mlodsinski has two plus pitches (or at least did on the Cape) and a 65+ FV name.
Seth Lonsway, OSU and former Red pick, has three above average pitches and questionable control.
SS Anthony Servideo is interesting. Probably sticks at SS, good pop, plus speed, good patience at the plate.
Fangraphs rates HS 3B Jordan Walker hit tool a 55. That's enough for me to consider giving him a second look. I'd be fine with that and his plus power projection to consider his pick a success.

    For the 65th pick:
CF Isaiah Greene is a really interesting pick. He's got speed to burn, is a legitimate defender, and MLB gives him a 55 hit tool. He's played against the best and done well and has upside.
RHP Tanner Burns, from Auburn, is a quality pitcher and SEC veteran. Mid 90s with several quality offspeed pitches.
Ryan Hagenow looks promising-- and big. He's a 6'5" HS pitcher with three quality pitches and is just 17.

Man I can't remember a year where the draft was so little discussed.

I guess that's what happens when you cancel baseball.

For historical reference (sorry if this was done before, I'm bored), past great picks at 12:

2010: Yasmani Grandal (this one looks familiar, ah if only...)
2005: Jay Bruce (I think I remember this guy too)
2004: Jered Weaver (I'd take this guy)
    1999: Brett Myers
    1995: Matt Morris
1994: Nomar Garciaparra (him too, highest career WAR picked at this spot)
    1993: Billy Wagner
    1987: Delino Deshields
    1978: Kirk Gibson

Fangraphs' last mock before the draft has the Reds taking Kjerstad, the Arkansas OF.

Longenhagen goes on to say, about the Reds:
In order of what I think is likely: Hassell if for some reason he’s here, then Kjerstad, then Abel.

Kjerstad or Veen. Meyer if he slips. No PC-A, please

So is this our discussion thread? Should we start up something new?

This whole draft is a blindfolded dart throwing exercise. Looking back on it in 2025 is going to be a blast.

I assume the new Reds drafting regime will pass on any HS hurlers as they did last year.

Some talk of Crow-Armstrong but he seems to be Siani. And we already have Siani. I'd rather see Austin Hendrick if we go HS bat.
OK, I like what happened. Again, no HS hurlers. And we got Hendrick.

The Florida catcher seems to be one of those "all round" types with no huge upside. Hope he pans out. But the other two hitters are all upside guys. I like that.

I would consider Jackson Miller a success if he ends up with a career like Tucker Barnhart. Seems like a decent comp.
