Good point. I'm not excited about another Latos deal. They pretty much traded 4 1st rd picks (Volquez had 1st rd talent
) for him. This team can't afford to trade 4 1st rd picks for anyone. That's far too pricey for a small market team.

Volquez was not a “first round talent” at the time the Reds traded him, he was basically completely falling apart. He had no value, he was a throw in.

Well, Latos was pre-arb with 4 years of control remaining. That's why he cost so much talentwise. The Reds need to target a similar talent with maybe a different contract situation. They have a ton of money coming off the books and can take on a contract. Greinke still makes sense to me but I doubt he's available, but as the season wears on, some names will become available. Money seems to be what the Reds have available though. They have about $60 Million coming off the books after the season.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Well he was our Game 1 starter in the 2010 playoffs and he's still in the league today at age 35. I agree with you that I didn't mind losing him as much as the other 3.

It was an awfully high price to pay as all 4 of those guys went on to have long MLB careers. The blueprint for a team like the Reds has to be one that is receiving 4 talents like that, not trading them.

Teams like the Reds don't acquire Greinke types. That's not how the Brewers won the division or how the Royals won their WS. Bear in mind, I'm not talking 2 mo rentals here.

IIRC, the Royals did acquire Johnny Cueto in mid season.
