The 2B thing is interesting, although I'd prefer to try him behind the dish.
With Suarez/Senzel/India/Hinds, 3B looks spoken for the foreseeable future.
Go BLUE!!!
It's going to be quite a while before that becomes a problem. I would just find a position for him where he's comfortable and let him hit. You can figure out his spot on the team when that's closer to being a reality.
Absolutely amazing pick though. I'm excited to watch this kid.
EDIT: Something to dream on. Imagine a Dragons lineup in 2020 that includes Tyler Callihan, Rece Hinds and Debby Santana hitting 2-3-4 in some order. That will be fun.

I really like this pick. I think even moreso than the Hinds pick, which I thought was very good. I love a guy who can just flat out hit, and it seems Callihan is exactly that. We heard a lofty comp like Eric Chavez and I'd love to dream on something like that but with the stuff about defense and his sweet left swing, I kind of think of a slightly more modest comp in the form of another native of Jacksonville, Daniel Murphy. I think Callihan could move quicker than the average Reds HS prospect if the bat is as advertised.
So you're saying we should Imagine Dragons.

Needless to say I am thrilled. I just listened to him yesterday on a radio interview with the local folks. At that point he was considered late first rounder with a lot of talk Yankees were taking him at 38. He sounded like a kid who wanted to sign and not play college ball.
They talked a lot about where he would play. I know he mentioned third, and he might have mentioned 2nd, 1st and OF. Can't quite recall. He certainly never mentioned catcher. I would put that dream to bed.
I would have paid more attention but I was pissed he was going to Yankees.

This pick deserves more hype than it’s getting. Fangraphs has him as the 17th position player in the draft. If he had a better athletic profile, we are probably talking top-10. That is a steal in the third round.

“Sometimes, funny things happen,” Katsuka said. “We had him evaluated in that range and thought a number of teams would select him. And then he just kind of hung around on the board and we were able to make it happen with our first pick of the day.”

Callihan was a third baseman in school, taken as a second baseman and has played some catcher. This left-handed hitter could profile as someone who if he can continue to hit, the Reds will find a place for him to play.
“It’s not just a power bat; he also has an advanced field to hit,” Katsuka said. “It’s a good combination of the hit and power tools. We saw him against varied competition this year.”
yeah, i'm with everyone else who loves this pick.

Report: Tyler Callihan agrees to $1.5 million deal with Reds
Former Providence slugger was a third-round pick in MLB draft
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It didn't take long for Tyler Callihan to start the next phase of his baseball career.
The Providence infielder agreed to terms on Thursday with the Cincinnati Reds, according to MLB Pipeline. The signing was first reported by Jon Heyman of the MLB Network. According to those reports, Callihan got significantly more than his draft position at No. 85 overall in the third round.
Callihan's slot bonus was $710,700 and he reportedly will get $1.5 million from the deal. That was enough to allow Callihan to make his move into professional baseball and not play in college at South Carolina. He had previously signed with the Gamecocks. Callihan said on Wednesday that he was stressed during the process, but happy with how things played out.

Love that he signed early.
I suspect Callihan will begin in Billings, not the AZL.
The bat's already advanced enough, if scouting reports can be believed, that he should flourish there offensively.
Too, he's listed as a 2B rather than a catcher. That likely means his (allegedly subpar) defense won't need all the extra coaching Arizona might provide.
I suspect Callihan will start at Greenville. Mike Siani started there and played there exclusively last year.

The Reds wanted him to catch, but after Minnesota did what they did, there was no turning back.
Reds: Tyler Callihan, 2B, Providence School of Jacksonville (Fla.), 3rd round:
We thought Callihan had a chance to sneak into the back end of the first round, but instead lasted until the start of Day 2. The Florida prep hitter has the chance to hit for average and power, though he didn’t seem to have a true defensive profile, making it interesting the Twins announced him as a second baseman.
