    2019 Women's World Cup soccer

The U.S. Women's World Cup team has their first game (vs Thailand) this Tuesday, June 11. It is on Fox at 3 PM. They are the top seed:

The U.S. has a lot of past-prime and late-prime players. Kind of reminds me of the 2003 squad. Also, Hope Solo probably was the best keeper ever. You can't replace that.

Do they have the urgency to put teams away early? Over-confidence...let a team hang around...bad break and it's over.

They had an easy time of it today over Thailand 13-0.

I remember losing to a team in the pre-season 13-2. We lost to them later in the season 1-0 (they won State that year).

I just got back from Thailand. It was lovely. Glad I went a couple weeks ago because I'm not sure they'd let me in now.

Can't really draw too much from this one because of who they played, but I thought they looked really fast. France looked very technical and moved the ball really well, but they didn't look as fast as the US did today.

Here is some chit chat about the game from the BBC site:

The Thai goalkeeper was a towering 5 foot 5...

I know they received a lot of criticism about running up the score but Thailand also has to play Sweden and I believe Sweden is one of the favorites - along with the US - to win it all. Maybe Sweden routs Thailand by a similar score but not as much. If Sweden and the US are tied in their group, running up the score against Thailand would probably be the difference. I'm sure both teams will advance but by winning the group, the US may get a more favorable opponent in the knockout round. It's too bad for the Thais but at least they made it.

It's the other teams job to stop you.

Run it up when you can.
