There is dispute how old she was (14, 15 or 16). Rose claims he believed her to be 16, which was the legal age to consent in Ohio. I don't know any other particulars and how much has been proven. I suggest that the world was different in 1973 than it is today. I remember watching Happy Days and the Fonz bragging about losing his virginity at 12 to one of his teachers. That was glorified during that era. At the same time, homosexuality was listed as a mental illness in psychology books. I'm not making excuses for the guy, just putting it into the context of the period of time. It was wrong, but it doesn't make him a piece of garbage almost 50 years later.

Whatever else the guy did and he did a lot of wrong stuff, he was a great baseball player for my favorite team growing up. I remember meeting him several times as he would come to the Boys Club in my hometown. I simply choose to remember him from those experiences.

well, he does have a point that the Reds use him for ticket sales and promotions, but when he complains that they don't allow him in the clubhouse, etc. that's not up to the Reds, is it?

I'm sure it's not but I didn't take it that he was blaming the Reds...rather "they", meaning baseball.

The Reds will use him any way they can...and have, ad nauseam, which is partly why I grew weary.

This year I’m tapped out. I cannot and will not excuse the Reds from doing little more than resting on their super star teams of the 70’s.

I am no fan of Pete Rose but he said it exactly right, so long as they could squeeze a nickel out of them this organization was just fine to have Rose show up. For the HOF to display his memorabilia and not allow him in is hypocritical.

The time has come to end his ban and out Pete Rose in the HOF and let him show up to a ballpark when he wants to.

Honestly I think he said the truth. Baseball and the Reds have used him over and over again to sell tickets but won't let him back in to the game (unless they need him again). He was by far my favorite player growing up and I too have grown weary of his act BUT what he said in this interview is absolutely true.
