What's wrong with betting on baseball when you don't have a baseball job?

I suspect that if we were to list every transgression of of every player ever elected to the HOF and kick out all who ever did anything wrong the HOF would cease to exist. Rose doesn't exist in a bubble or vacuum of "Only Pete Rose did things wrong". Plenty of players in and out of the HOF did a lot of crummy things. I suspect quite a few HOFers slept with young ladies, bet on games and far worse things, but Rose is somehow singled out well beyond anything he actually did that nobody else ever did.
Personally I agree with his philosophy on hitting and winning games. I don't have to like him as a human being because after all, if a person's character is the only measure of their worth in baseball a LOT of really bad baseball players would be in the HOF today instead of guys who broke records playing.
Do we only root for teams and players with the nicest guys and uniforms? Last time I checked we root for teams and players who can win games.

Rose did way more than those other players you point out.
He bet on baseball while a manager of the Reds. Every ball player has it drilled into him that if you bet on baseball you will be kicked out.
He agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball even while stilling claim his innocence, essentially to keep the sordid details hidden.
So, you'd feel the same about him if he was playing poker at a casino?

Why would whether he gets in the HOF or not be connected to him "reconfiguring" his life after he retired? The HOF should be based solely on his baseball career....I don't particularly like him, but he is one of the baseball greats of all time and belongs in the HOF. Put him right beside Ty Cobb for all I care, just quit with worrying about his current life...
