HR Friendly Ballparks

I’m watching the Astros @ Yankees game.
Just saw 2 HRs in the 7th inning, one by each team that went just 320 feet.

Just wanted to ask how GABP ranks with Yankee Stadium and other HR friendly ballparks in the total number of HRs hit so far this season?

GABP ranks 9th in HR-friendliness this season. Yankee stadium is actually 20th.

I was a bit surprised to see Dodger Stadium #6 and Angels Stadium #7 both in the top 10 of HR friendly parks.

Word of warning: One-year park factors aren't always great indicators are helpful, but not always telling the whole story. The specific team that plays in that park might be swaying things, and only after some portion of the home line-up turns over and you get a bigger sample size of visiting teams (not just the same in-division players thanks to the overly unbalanced scheduling) can you be sure you're measuring the park, not the players.

To that end: the Angels seem to have some epically bad pitching this year (and also, on offense, Mike Trout). The Dodgers, on the other hand, are stacked offensively.

As a Yankees' fan, I can also tell you that 320' homers is all about that short porch in RF. When they built the new stadium 10 years ago, there was actually quite a stink about how the Yankees brought the same dimensions over from the old stadium, because right field just makes it too easy for left handed bats.

Just did a quick look-up: in Yankees' history, there have been 30 instances of a player hitting 40+ home runs, by 11 different players. All in the last 2 iterations of Yankee Stadium (same dimensions). Of those 11, only 3 were right-handed, and only ARod did it twice (DiMaggio and Judge, once each, for a total of 4 of those 30 seasons). Mantle mucks it up a bit by being a switch-hitter, but exactly 2/3rds of his at-bats came as a lefty... so he's MOSTLY lefty, maybe? Mickey did it 3 times, so let's call 2 of them left-handed, and generously call the other right-handed.

Tellingly, Curtis Granderson went for 40+ twice as a Yankee. He never hit more than 30 with any other team. Tino Martinez also did it once, and just barely topped 30 once while not in pinstripes (31 with Seattle). Neither will be remembered for power. The other 9 men are some of the most prolific power hitters of all-time, 7 of them HoF'ers (Judge and Giambi the exceptions).

34 left-handed, 8 right-handed

1960 (40 HR's):
24 left-handed, 16 right-handed

43 left-handed, 11 right-handed
24 at home, 30 away

Every ballpark is HR friendly as long as someone is able to knock one over the fences.. Some are a little more friendly than others, but none are too big to knock one out.
