    6/24/19 here you go...

Louisville Bats (28-47) - It's time for Vladimir Gutierrez to turn this season around. VG is currently carrying a 7.60 ERA. He will be opposed by Mitch Keller (3.10). Bet accordingly. Vlad's strikeouts are down, and his walks are up. His K/BB rate is trending downward. 2017 - 4.95. 2018 - 3.82. 2019 - 2.00.

Brian O'Grady is in a slump. Last 16 games: .222/.290/.238/.528. I think he has always been a streak hitter though.

Alex Blandino is quietly having a nice season: .308/.455/.481/.935. `He might look nice on the Reds' bench, but who goes down? Maybe Ervin? And for how long would he be up with Scooter getting so close to coming back?

Scott Schebler continues to muddle along. His OPS stands at .681. And in this year's I.L. environment, that's not good.

Jackson Stephen's numbers do not look at that good at first glance. But, honestly, his 4.79 ERA is above league average. He has allowed just 2 dingers in 47 innings. And has a 41/17 KBB ratio going on. Not too bad.

Louisville has employed 28 pitchers already, half of which have an ERA of 5.00 or higher. Is that any way to run a ballclub? That reminds me of a couple of recent Reds' staffs.

Unless Schebler unexpectedly starts knocking the cover off the proverbial ball I don't expect to see him back in a Reds uniform any time soon, but he's still a young man so anything's possible. I might expect Aquino as a late season addition if he keeps up his hitting ways and perhaps even Blandino.. Pitching? I'm still intrigued with Joel Kuhnel as a late addition to the bullpen even if his lone appearance at AAA gave him a 9.00 ERA..1 Inning and 1 run..Not exactly indicative of how he might fare going forward.. It's still good to see him moving up the ranks in minor league ball..

Chattanooga has jumped out to a 3-1 record in the second half, good for a first-place tie with the Montgomery Biscuit Eaters. TBD is listed as the starter. I am going with Scott Moss, until I am right. After an iffy start to the 2019 campaign, Moss has been electric over his last 9 starts, allowing just 26 hits over his last 45.2 innings. He has struck out 54 over that same span. All those numbers add up to a 2.36 ERA.

If Tony Santillan could work out his problems, that would be a nice little AA trio of starters - Moss, Naughton and Santillan.

Former 2012 1st round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays, Mitch Nay, is having a fine season. .293/.357/.512/.869. Some guys blossom late.

Calten Daal has been reactivated off of the I.L.

Alfredo Rodrigo is Havana very good showing with the stick in 2019. His .308 batting average places him third in the league in that category. Alfredo is exhibiting a little pop here in the month of June with 6 extra-base hits and a .414 slugging percentage.

Chris Okey needs another shipment of magic pixie dust, as he is batting just .172 over his last 11 games.

Ibandel Isabel leads the league in home runs with 16. Isabel has launched 51 big flies in 160 games since coming over from the Dodgers' farm system in a trade.

I'm still unsure about Rodrigo's glovework..anyone have the skinny on him?

    Re: 6/24/19 here you go...

The Billings Mustangs are buried in the cellar after just 9 games. The are 1 up and 8 down here in 2019.

Carlos Carreno (10.29) will try to play stopper today, and halt the Mustangs' 3-game losing streak. Carreno has allowed just 4 home runs in 167.1 professional innings. Nice. His K/9 is 7.2, and his BB/9 is 2.7.

Leonardo Seminati is starting well for Billings: .433/.485/.567/1.052. Seminati signed for 135,000. He played with Italy's U-18 team. Reds' farm Director, Jeff Graupe, had this to say about Seminati, "He has major power. He hit a ball over the scoreboard in Glendale. But he's also a really good athlete. He has the ability to play first, third, and I think he could play the outfield." And then there is little blurb from a site dedicated to Italian ballplayers:
MLB scouts scratched their heads in disbelief when Team Italy first baseman Leonardo Seminati stole the show by hitting several bombs over the Marlins Park wall in the 2016 Power Showcase Home Run Derby.
It seems as though Seminati goes by the nickname of "Grande Leo".

    Re: 6/24/19 here you go...

A rough first couple of innings has pretty much crushed the DSL Reds chance of winning today's contest. They allowed 9 runs in those two innings. The game is now in the 9th, and they trail 10-3.

Dannysmel Tavarez was punished for all 9 of those runs in just 1-plus innings. The relief corps worked the final 7 frames, allowing just one run. Williams Yanez went 3.2 scoreless today, and has not yielded a run over his last 7.1 innings. Israel Lantigua worked 3.2 of 1-run baseball.

The DSL Reds collected 6 hits spread out among 6 players. Daniel Vellojin singled and was hit by a pitch. He came out of the game immediately after the HBP.

Scooter Gennett is leading off for the Bats tonight. He doubled in his first at-bat.

Lookouts are playing the Birmingham Barons (CWS affiliate). Some notable names for them. Luis Robert is 2-3, he's having a very good season. Nick Madrigal is 2-2 with a double and a walk off of Scott Moss. Blake Rutherford is 2-2 as well, though his singles only raised his OPS to .630

Moss has given up just one run so far though into the 5th, but trouble is brewing.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Louisville is trailing 3-1 as they enter the 7th.

    Vladimir Gutierrez pitched well, with all 3 runs charged against him being unearned. 6 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HR.

As far as the offense is concerned, Josh VanMeter smacked # 14. And not a whole lot else so far.

Chattanooga is tied up at 3 with Birmingham batting in the top of the 5th.

Scott Moss is battling. 4 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. Birmingham is threatening in the 5th.

Calten Daal has been carrying a big part of the load for the Lookouts with a single, a double, and 2 ribbies.

    Re: 6/24/19 here you go...

In the month of June, Aquino's slugging percentage (.875) & OPS (1.306) lead the league.

The Bats have led in 19 of their 21 games played in the month of June, but have just 5 wins to show for it.

The Bats have had 17 individual multi-homer performances this season, easily pacing the league, with Charlotte and Columbus tied for second place with 10 multi-HR games apiece. Louisville had a total of 18 individual multi-homer efforts during the previous 7 seasons (2012-18) combined.

Chattanooga fell behind 4-3 in the top of the 5th, but Ibandel Isabel jerked # 17 into the stands to tie things up in the bottom half of the inning.

Vlad Guerrero added another scoreless frame. Very nice outing for VG. The score is still knotted at 3 as the head into top of the 8th.

Madrigal and Robert are making a mockery out of the Southern League. The White Sox are going to be fun to watch in a year or so.

Scott Moss did not have the best of outings, but he hung in there and battled for 6.2 innings. He allowed 10 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.

Ty Boyles pitched the 8th, and gave up a run to make it 5-4 Birmingham.

In the bottom of the 8th, Isabel stroked a one-out single for his 3rd hit on the night. Tyler Stephenson then grounded into a double play.
