He just said that even if he was it would have been the same outcome in his opinion. Considering he is there and can see how far Puig would have needed to go I'll take his word for it. Theres is absolutely no way puig could have known that a ball hit pretty much to straight away CF would bounce back towards him. It happens.

it was soooo out of character for welsh. makes me wonder if he received some heat for making some very minor criticisms of puig earlier this season. just so weird. as you said, that is the precise type of play where an outfielder needs to be backing up his fellow outfielder. but welsh said like 4x that it was not on puig. lol.

I actually recall Billy having one or two of those clank off his glove last season.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

yeah, he's wrong. triple at the least if puig backs up the play. and then welsh went on and on about how puig couldn't have prevented the inside-the-park home run. just high comedy.

Trout couldn’t handle the LD by Peraza. C’mon Reds, buy low.

One typically doesn't "back up" plays hit to dead center. Maybe a bit more urgency in moving that direction, but I'm betting he thought it was out of the park or being caught.
Rounding third and heading for home...
