    Can VanMeter catch?

Will he be relieved by Ivan Alou?

Louisville gets a little breathing room, and leads now 5-1 with 7 in the books.

Tejay surrendered 1 run in 6 innings. Nice.

Alex Blandino doubled, Josh VanMeter walked and Brian O'Grady sent a laser beam over the right field wall (20).

VanMeter came into the game OPSing 1.120, and has now gone 3 for 3 with a walk. What are the Reds waiting for exactly?

At the very least you have to figure out a way to get Van Meter some playing time in the bigs. Something just seems to have clicked. It makes sense for him to be in AAA to play every day but with Scooter in the last year if his deal it would be nice to know what we have here going into next year. Just so hard to buy into all these crazy AAA numbers.

Greeneville was doubled up tonight, 10-5. That stretches their losing string to 5 games.

The pitching out of the pen stiffened after the score reached 10.

Randy Wynne worked 4 scoreless innings. Dan Serreino and Jose Zorilla registered a shutout frame apiece.

    Little Danny Remy singled twice.
Allan Cerda singled and walked. Cerda also gunned down a runner at second.
Cristian Olivo chipped in with a pair of base knocks.
Raul Juarez hit dinger number 3 on the year.
    Justin Gomez singled twice.
Garrett Wolforth singled twice and doubled.

Dayton got some pitching, but no offense. They lose 3-0.

Moises Nova was the first man out of the pen, and shut them down for 1.2 innings
Alexis Diaz was superb. 4 innings of scoreless baseball. He fanned 4. Diaz has now pitched 9.2 shutout frames in succession.

    Miguel Hernandez singled and walked.

Chattanooga holds on by an 8-6 count.

Reiver Sanmartin was charged with all 6 runs (4 earned) on 10 hits in 4.2 innings.
Aaron Fossas 2.1 scoreless and Juan Martinez 2 scoreless settled things down. Martinez lowered his ERA to 1.03.

Alfredo Rodriguez singled and walked. It seems like contributes a little something every game with the stick.
Taylor Trammell singled and homered (5). He stole his 15th base.
Ibandel Isabel singled and homered (20). The home run came with the bases juiced.
Michael Betre connected for his first jack on the year.

    Re: 7/02/19 Space Balls...

Daytona kept it close for 4 innings, and then something hit the fan. And it was NOT a baseball. 9-2 Tarpons.

Jared Solomon was in complete control for 4 innings, and then completely lost it.
John Ghyzel was perfect for one inning, Michael Byrne for two.

Alejo Lopez hit a 2-run poke (2) in the 8th to allow Daytona to avoid the shutout. He also walked twice.
The Stuart Fairfield Machine keeps plugging along, with a double and a walk.
Jose Garcia also doubled and walked; but he's not a machine just yet.
Hendrik Clementina walked to extend his on-base streak to 19 games.

    Re: 7/02/19 Space Balls...

Billings only scored in one inning last night, but that's enough if you score five times in that inning.

Miguel Medrano was aces on Tuesday, 5 innings of 1-hit ball, no walks and 7 Ks.
Johnnie Schneider struck out 5 across 2 innings.
Manuel Cachutt and Francis Peguero each chipped in a scoreless frame.

Matt LLoyd has started his minor league career guns a-blazing, 3 home runs in 4 games. Lloyd also doubled.
Reniel Ozuna had a perfect night at the plate with a single, a double and 2 walks.
TJ Hopkins singled, was hit by a pitch and stole a base (2).
James Free cleared the bases with a triple and walked.

The AZL Reds romped home 8-0.

Noah Davis worked a scoreless inning in his first appearance since 6/22.
Miguel Lar walked 5 batters during his 4-inning stint, but somehow kept them off the board.
    Andres Falcon and Jake Gilbert had identical lines: 2 IP, 0 H. 0R. 1 BB, 2 K.

Axel Aleixo doubled, walked, and was plunked.
Caleb Van Blake singled, doubled, homered (1) and walked. His batting average is up to .350.
Wendelll Marrero continues to hit and hit. He added to more singles to his season's totals.
Aiverson Palacios swatted both a single and a triple.

James Marinan (5.28) is tonight's starting pitcher. For some reason, Marinan's K/9 is way down this year. Coming into the season, he had fanned 8.2/9. This season that rate has dropped to 5.5/9. There has been a corresponding drop in his BB/9 rate as well, 4.7/9 to 3.1/9. Maybe a new pitching philosophy?

Personal boring story: We only get back to Cincinnati once every couple of years, and we always drive past the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. Well, we decided on one trip to stop, and check it out. We go to drive into it, and it was closed. It seems that the a giant sinkhole swallowed an 8-pack of Corvettes. Here is the story for the disbelievers among us: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...khole/5417171/

Brian Rey is hitting a torrid .348 in the second half of the season.

A couple more Dragons' hitters are coming alive in the second half - Miguel Hernandez (.316) and Bren Spillane (.318).
I remember well The giant 'Vette-sucking hole from when it happened.
