    AZL-Reds trail 2-1 very early.

Luis Mey is on the mound.

Rylan Thomas is on a rehab assignment, but he is not playing much at all. He has been in 4 games and has 6 plate appearances. Tonight, he struck out in the first and then was immediately replaced. He never took the field on defense. Strange.

Billings is trotting out a brand new pitcher tonight, Orlando Rodriguez. They fetched Rodriguez from the Independent League's Schaumburg Boomers. https://stubobcats.com/news/2019/7/5...nati-reds.aspx

Orlando Rodriguez is making his initial start for the Mustangs. He has thrown 4 shutout stanzas so far tonight.

Billings has yet to dent the scoreboard themselves. 0-0 game in the bottom of the 4th.

He definitely leads the SL in singles...I'd find it hard to believe anyone in MILB has more...

    That's certainly not a bad thing...but I can't say it's a good thing either.

The WHIPS are pretty atrocious throughout the Minors. They simply aren't getting outs.

That's the craziest minor league note I've seen all year.

Was that three great pitching performances in the Minors in one day? Is that a first?

Billings shuts out Missoula 3-0, scoring 3 late runs.

Newcomer Orlando Rodriguez set the tone with 5 scoreless innings. He allowed just 2 hits and struck out 6.
Relievers McDonald (1), Schneider (2) and Peguero (1) took it the rest of the way.
Mustang pitchers fanned 12 on the night.

Nate Scantlin had a big night at the plate with a double and a home run (1).
    Quincy McAfee singled twice.

The AZL-Reds kept pouring it on last night, eventually winning 10-2.

Luis Mey went 4.2 innings. He allowed both runs.
Once again, the bullpen was excellent.
Jacques Pucheu worked 3.1 innings of 1-hit baseball.
Jake Gilbert tossed in a scoreless 9th inning.

    Axel Aleixo singled and walked.
Jorge Sequera also singled and walked.
Jose Tello homered (1) and walked.
Fidel Castro doubled, tripled and walked. He stole a base as well (1).
Sebastian Almonte singled, tripled and walked. He pilfered second (2).
Ashton Creal singled and was hit by a pitch. Additionally, he threw a runner out on the basepaths.
Elvis Gomez singled twice and walked.

i like the Romano decision. In fact, i wonder if it wasn't made about three weeks ago, as he has gone 2, 3, 4 and 4 his last four outings and with more days in-between. And as we know, that rotation could use some help.

Romano isn't going to be successful without a change-up whether it's starting or relieving. Right now he needs the innings to work on it. Shelving the change in the bullpen doesn't leave him with enough quality pitches to succeed in any role. His best attribute is his ability to eat innings while keeping the team in the game. Putting him in the bullpen removes his best attribute. Let him go through a line-up 3 times and use all his pitches. It might get ugly, but the process was never completed with him. The Reds called him up out of their self created necessity (by not having viable options) and short changed that process. Let him start as long as he's in the minors. If he gets called up in the pen out of necessity, they can worry about which pitch to can then. Right now, he needs the minor league reps which allows him the freedom to develop those pitches that pitching in the big leagues doesn't allow. Let him pitch no matter what the results are. If he's not worthy of a AAA rotation spot, he's probably not worthy of staying in the organization.

    Daytona leads 2-0 after 5.

Connor Curlis has moseyed through 5 innings without giving up a run. He has allowed 6 hits, but hasn't walked anyone as of yet.

The Tortugas offense all came on one swing of the stick. Shard Munroe whacked his first home run as a Tortuga, a two-run shot.

Chattanooga trails the Jackson Five plus Four, 2-0.

Scott Moss has been charged with 2 runs (1 earned).

Tyler Stephenson has the lone Lookouts base knock.
