Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

Chattanooga was the lone farm club to taste the sting of defeat on Monday, falling 5-3. They are on a 4-game slide. After tonight's affair, Chattanooga heads out onto the road for the rare 6-game series against Biloxi, and smack dab in the line of fire of a tropical storm. Biloxi is probably the casino capital of the world. Biloxi, population 44,000, has 9 casinos. If you have dollar bills falling out of your pockets, head to Biloxi.

Scott Moss, designated stopper, will take the ball. Moss (3.36), who leads the team in strike outs with 99, was on the mound when the Lookouts last one a game.

Tony Santillan is scheduled to work tomorrow night. It will be interesting to see if he actually makes that start.

Alfredo Rodriguez recorded his 25th game with two or more hits. He is now second in the league with 96 hits. He has cut his strikeout rate considerably. Coming into the season, he had struck out in 16.4% of his plate appearances. In 2019, that has dropped to 13.6%. Rodriguez also has, by far, his highest BABIP at .342.

Taylor Trammell was reinstated to the active list, and actually made a pinch hitting appearance on Monday night.

Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

Daytona was a winner winner chicken dinner last night, snapping a short losing streak.

Wennington Romero (4.34) gets the start. I think Romero needs a little more giddy-up on his fastball. Will it happen? Who knows.
Dauri Moreta is having a bounceback season in 2019. His 2018 was all kinds of ugly. His last 10 trips from the pen have produced very good results: 20 IP, 15 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 27 K. Moreta has always had the ability to miss bats, as evidenced by his 250 strike outs in just 175 innings of work.

Jonathan India was listed at #35 in Baseball Prospectus's mid-season rankings. He was listed at #35 in their pre-season rankings. This means that he has actually dropped a little. If anyone wants to look at it in a different light, fine. His number's this season are good. That's all that matters.
Alejo Lopez has a career OBP of .369. That's pretty solid.
Daytona may end up being Bruce Yari's Waterloo. He is hitting just .097 over his last 10 contests. He's 24 and in High-A. The clock has to have started ticking by now.

Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

Dayton had not scored an earned run in 26 innings. They came into the bottom of the 9th trailing 4-1. They won the game. Amazing. The Dragons are off tonight.

Eduardo Salazar (4.75) will pitch for the Dragons on Wednesday, and is hoping for a whole lot of residual magic. The 6'2" righty is in his third season with the organization. Salazar is not a big strike out pitcher (7.2/K9), but has pretty good control (2.35/BB9).
Connor Bennett picked up the win last night with a perfect ninth, punching out all 3 batters that he faced. He has not been scored upon since May. Bennett is from Buford, Georgia, and if there is a more Georgian-sounding name for a town, I cannot imagine what it would be. The University of Georgia's nickname is the Bulldogs. That fits Connor to a tee. Bennett is 5'9', 212. Or, is listed as such. He is definitely one of the shorter pitchers going. Connor is built like a fullback, and I would have to imagine played football. The Buford Wolves have won 10 state championships in football since the year 2000.

Bren Spillane is due some credit here. He has hit .438 over his last 9 games, raising his average from .149 to .197 in the process.

Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

Billings received a boost from the Schaumburg Boomers in the form of Orlando Rodriguez. Rodriguez, making his first start for the Mustangs, tossed 5 shutout innings in a 3-0 blanking of the Missoula Ospreys.

Justin McGregor (6.75) is on tap tomorrow night for Billings. He struck out 8, while not walking a batter last time out. But, realistically, the Mustangs are going to have to score a bunch of runs to win this one.
Johnnie Schneider is in the zone over his last 3 appearances: 5 IP, 0 R, 11 K.

Leonardo Seminati is 0 for his last 11. He has not, however, changed his nickname from 'Grande Leo' to 'Grande Zero'. That's just a rumor. Nick Lodolo is the real 'Grande Zero'.

Greeneville played a well-rounded game yesterday, winning 6-0. They have the night off tonight.

Here is the man of the moment: Cameron Warren. Since joining the club, Warren has provided a huge boost. It has only been 3 games, but here's his line: .444/.583/.444/1.028. Throw 3 stolen bases into the mix as well. Warren played collegiately at Texas Tech. He stole 3 bases in 126 games there. Cameron must be excited to be in the Reds organization.

So, if I am looking at this correctly. Chattanooga, Daytona and the DSL-Reds are the only teams playing today.

Louisville, Dayton, Billings, Greeneville and the AZL-Reds are off.

Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

DSL-Reds roll on this morning. They improve to a record of 22-11 by taking an 11-6 victory over somebody.

All three hurlers gave up multiple runs. Andry Cuevas was the most effective of the three, going 4 innings and giving up 2 hits. He struck out 9, while collecting his 9th save.

    Esmil Torres tripled and walked.
Thomas Lora singled twice, doubled and walked twice. Lora stole 2 bases (8/9).
Jose Acosta singled, doubled and walked. He stole a base (10), and is now hitting a cool .418.
Darlin Guzman doubled, tripled and walked twice.
Daniel Vellojin singled twice and walked twice.
The 3-4-5 hitters, Acosta, Guzman and Vellojin, for the D-Reds are OPSing 1,104, 1.014 and 1.026 respectively.
Jeferson Gerardo singled and walked twice.
Junior Tamares singled and walked. He stole a base (7).

25 men reached base for the D-Reds (13 hits and 12 walks).

Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

If anyone bought tickets wanting to see Wennington Romero pitch after reading this thread, my apologies. Wennington Romero has been placed on the 7-day injured list.

Up from Dayton, on a moment's notice, is Connor Curlis. Best of luck, Connor.

Bon voyage, Dylan Harris. Harris, 24, was let go on Tuesday. He had a fairly successful 2018 in Billings, OPSing .796.

He never got anything going this year for either Dayton or Daytona.

The DSL-Reds have won 4 straight, and have 5-game lead in their division. Which, by the way, is named Baseball City Division. I like it.

If Jon India hasn’t patented the 1-4 with a walk night then he should right away.

Daytona makes it 2 straight with a 2-1 victory.

Connor Curlis starts and goes 5.1 scoreless innings.
Michael Byrne turns in his 3rd straight shutout outing.
Diomar Lopez sets them down in order in the 9th. He earned his first save.

Jonathan India singled and walked. He stole a base (7). India played the hot corner tonight.
Stuart Fairchild doubled twice. That gives him 17 on the season for the 'Tugas.
Shard Munroe touched them all for the first time wearing a Daytona uniform.
    Mark Koloszvary singled twice.

Re: 7-9-19 summer in the city....

Chattanooga blows a 4-2 lead late, losing 7-5.

Scott Moss did his job, limiting Jackson to 2 runs (1 earned) over 6 innings.
    The bullpen blew up.

Alfredo Rodriguez singled and doubled. He doubled in the 9th with 2 gone to bring the tying run to the plate. It was futile.
Taylor Trammell walked twice. He also stole base #17.
Mitch Nay singled, doubled and homered (12).
Ibandel Isabel took over the organizational lead in home runs. He singled and homered (23).
