2019 Ohio State Buckeyes Football: It’s a New Day

Curious how you guys feel about a UK QB who couldn’t beat out Terry Wilson starting for the Buckeyes?

For the record, I liked Hoak and would have liked to have seen what he could have done if Stoops and Eddie Gran would have had more confidence in him.

I think he will too, but it should be concerning that he is having a hard time beating out a lower rated transfer. As a UK fan, I’d be curious to see how Hoak would do on a bigger stage but I think Day is probably using Hoaks presence to light a fire under Fields.

Yeah I don’t think this is anything other than Day trying to push Fields.

Yeah Fields is going to start. He’s probably going to turn it over a little too much, but between his legs and Dobbins they should be able to win and control a lot of games on the ground. Hopefully Fields will get more comfortable as the season goes on throwing the ball. But the whole him not being named starter yet is 100% coach speak stuff.

So FAU is garbage, but wow that was a good start.

I glanced at the game now and again - I call these record-padding games all the big teams set up "duckpin" games - and seldom spend much time viewing them, but Fields sure seems to be slightly built. Not sure if he will hold up.

I’m not sure slight is the right word. He’s bigger than Murray or even Russell Wilson, but he’s not Cam Newton for sure. He definitely needs to pick his spots like he did yesterday. I’m sure once Big 10 season comes he’s going to want to take off more.

Fields has been fantastic. I’m really impressed with his decision making thus far. The new line has been good too, which was my biggest concern coming into the season.

It’s also nice to have a competent defense again. As much fun as watching bad teams get multiple 60+ yard TDs a game last season was. Crazy how much coaching and scheme matter, because it’s basically all the same players.

UC is supposed to be semi-ok right? That beatdown felt significant.

Yeah they are supposed to be, but who knows at this point. I agree though, it felt like a solid win and the improvements from week 1 were noticeable.

Yeah hard to get a read since Indiana hasn’t really played anyone. I’m curious to see Penix and how the defense handles the dual threat guy.

The last time IU had a guy like this his name was Randle El. Unlike Antwaan, Penix has an arsenal of receivers and a full stable of running backs. That being said, I want to see how the Hoosiers deal with the Bucknut's depth. I think we can play with you guys, I just don't know if we can for 4 quarters. Or perhaps it is all wishful thinking on my part.
