It seems Angel Hernandez was calling the high strike all day to everyone.

If I’m playing in a game with an ump making those calls, I’m swinging at every high pitch with two strikes.

It wasn't just high pitches, he was calling inside, outside and low strikes too. He's absolutely terrible behind the plate.

You shouldn't have to expand the strike zone 2+ inches in every direction when a buffoon is behind the plate. Baseball is hard enough.

My favorite call of the day was probably Castillo not getting a clear strike 3 on Lester, that eventually led to him getting a hit. He stared in there a long time afterward.

there is no defense for pulling your ace starter -- after he merely gave up a lucky infield hit -- to insert lorenzen in the game. castillo had plenty gas left in the tank. heyward was so lucky that was a hit, or it would have ended the inning.

the reds gave this game away/david bell gave this game away.

Castillo gave up 3 hits in the 6th inning with exit velocity over 106. His fifth hardest hit ball of the day was given up was in the 7th. They were starting to hit him harder.

    Re: Cubs @ Reds 8-11-19

I finally got my credentials approved. I'm a fully approved member of the RedsZone forum. I have so much I've wanted to say over the past few weeks.

    1) Double Switch. Someone mentioned that the purpose of the double switch is so that the relief pitcher can pitch more than one inning without pulling him for a pinch hitter. Exactly. If that is not your intention, don't do the double switch! Baseball 101. I've never seen a manager more in love with the double switch than David Bell. The way he uses it unnecessarily burns through bench players without advancing the ball.
    2) Playoffs. Okay, I know the Reds aren't going to make the playoffs, but isn't okay that we can dream of that possibility now that we're in August? Please negative nellies stop raining on our parade.
    3) "The Punisher" That may be the worst nickname ever.. You can be the best hitter in MLB history, and you're still making an out about 70% of the time. No, Aquino isn't going to "punish" opposing teams most of the time. So don't build up expectations with that ridiculous nickname.
    4) Joey Votto: I'm sorry, but he doesn't hit for enough power to continue as the Reds first baseman with a .250 average. I hope this year isn't the end of his career, but I fear it is.
    5) David Hernandez: There is no reason, none, for David Bell to continue to run him out to pitch in critical situations when he couldn't get people out. Bell wasn't putting him in for mop up situations. He was putting him in critical situations...then leaving him in as he gave up hits and walks and runs that took the Reds out of the game. The only explanation I have for Bell continuing to put Hernandez in during key situations, is that David Hernandez possessed compromising pictures of David Bell. That is the only explanation I can think of to explain Bell's use of Fernandez the last couple months.

Totally agree. Bell shouldn't have taken Castillo out for a lucky hit.

TBH I thought we did good this series. Everyone on the team has good vibes, year hasn't been too bad. We did a good back and forth under pressure

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Reminds me of when they nicknamed Willie Mays the “Say Hey Kid.” He of course was going to age so it was ridiculous to set expectations that he’d have infinite youth with such a nickname. Another one was Gehrig, the “Iron Horse.” He wasn’t even equine folks! Smdh.

That makes sense. But it also makes sense that the zone being called puts batters in a really tough spot. Most guys can’t do much with pitches out of the zone. Just a bad situation.
