That's right! It's that time of year again. The difference this year is the Reds are still in it (on paper). That's OK. I can handle both. But very much looking forward to college football.
What started out several years ago, with a bunch of B10 fans playing their weekly schedule, evolved/expanded into something much more. But I enjoy doing it. And maybe now that I'm retired I won't make as many mistakes. Of course I'm sure I'll have my "co-Commissioner" (cumberlandred)- who I like to refer to as Baba Looey - helping me to stay in line. He was a huge help last year because I have a lot of brain farts.
This is done TOTALLY for our fun and amusement during those winter months and football season. It'll be the same format as last year (but always open for suggestions). And for any "newbies" that may be interested, here's how it's played ....
- two divisions (B1G and Other National Games) .... we play the entire B1G schedule, while it's ala carte in ONG (10-12 games picked, and I try to be diverse, yet selective, so that they are competitive)
- There will be a mixture of games played two ways ... 1) straight up (simply pick winner or loser), and 2) point spread.
Those games designated as "point spread" games will have the spread in bold parentheses next to the favored team forfeiting points. And I will add .5 to any point spread that is a whole number in order to avoid ties.
There was one issue discussed openly last year, towards the end of the season, and agreed upon for this season ....
When you post your weekly picks, please proof-read to make sure you've made (highlighted, etc) your picks for all games. Had many situations where omissions were made. We try to be alert on here and help each other out. And when it has happened we do as best we can to let that person know (PM, etc) they missed a game. But it's still your responsibility. Before, when missed, I counted them as a "pass".
This season they will go in the "L" column.
I also, briefly, want to kind of emphasis a few things .....
We invite any and all to participate. But for my sake - because I do all the weekly tracking/posting of stats, standings, etc - please make sure the commitment is there. We've have instances every season where someone starts out the first month ... then quits. Respectfully - save me the time (LOL).
I know that making sure one gets their weekly picks in on here is not the most important thing going on in their weekly lives too. You're on the road, you got jobs, etc. And it's still a "work in progress", but I'm trying to set a "minimum standard" on participation in order to be fair to all when it comes to those Final Standings. This season I'm going with two weeks. There are 15 weeks in the season. One can miss two weeks and still be included in the final standings. Sound fair? Again, open to suggestions. Not written in stone, but it's at least letting those considering playing what is expected of them.
We have our "regulars" who play every year (and I appreciate that). I want to say they're a good group of guys ... but we have one lady who plays too (Heather). Looking forward to another season. I initiated a "rebuild", so I hope I do better this season.
Schedule forthcoming (any minute now)(LOL)
