I was not sure, but I thought he was again out of position. I know I learned you position yourself in line with the ball coming in, and he was near the pitchers mound.

Then I would submit you try to take advantage of having men on base. Rather than wasting those baserunners to clear the pitcher’s spot. It’s a very defensive way to play baseball.

Not that Ervin should swing at ball four, but the take sign would be incorrect in that spot IMO.

Ervin generally has very good plate discipline, it’s probably the strongest part of Ervin’s game. He’s the ideal guy to give 3-0 discretion. Manager can’t predict the future, just go by the player’s tendencies.
