So the pitcher us at least not leading off next inning.
So you can force the pitcher to throw a WP or a better pitch on a 3-1 or 3-2 count.
So you can make the pitcher labor some more, for possibly 7-8 more pitches in the inning.
So the runners can be going on a full count.
So a WP (he's already hit a batter and walked several and has no control right now) can occur on any of the next 7-8 pitches.
There are more reasons, but I'm tired of listing them.
