I have 100% confidence they'd have won if they got that inning to Acosta.

Billings and Missoula headed into extras tied up at 2. Billings began the top of the 10th with a runner on second. He didn't move an inch. The Missoula relievers pitched, IMO, an Immaculate Inning. He struck out all 3 batters on 11 pitches, all strikes. There were a couple of 2-strike pitches that were fouled off. Close enough.

Billings bullpen has pitched 5 hitless, scoreless innings to this point. They are going to need another one.

That was quick and relatively painless. With a runner on second to begin the bottom of 10th, the first Missoula batter failed to get a bunt down on the first two strikes. So, he just laced a single to end the contest.

Mustangs still lead by 4 games with 8 to go.

Heading in to the final week of the season, the Billings Mustangs have tightened (added excitement to?) up the division considerably by losing 6 straight. They are currently 1.5 games up, and are hosting second-place Missouri in a 4-game set. The Osprey have an additional game to play, which is essentially meaningless as far as the playoffs are concerned. Billings has to, at the very least, split the series. There are two scenarios: 1) Missouri wins the extra game and heads to Billings just 1 game back in the standings. If the teams split the series, Billings is in. 2) Missouri loses the extra game and heads to Billings 2 games in arrears. If Billings wins just one, the teams tie, and Missouri wins the first tiebreaker by virtue of winning the head-to-head season's series. So, Billings has to win at least two games in this scenario as well.

Two (or more) out of four is the bottom line.

Acosta is a long, long way from the bigs, but he's been a bright spot this season.

Missoula is playing like this game does not matter, which it doesn't. They trail 13-0 after two innings of play.

Billings was trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the 7th, and looked as if they were heading for the 7th consecutive loss, when Tyler Calihan delivered a grand slam with two away. The game headed into extra innings tied at 4. Mustangs gave up a run in the top of the 10th, but once again rallied with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning to walk off the field 6-5 winners. Eric Yang and Garrett Wolforth came through with run-scoring base knocks in the inning. Their lead is now 3 games with 3 left to play. Huge win for the Mustangs.

Billings clinches a playoff berth last night with a 5-2 win last night. The Osprey scored 2 runs in the top of the first, and then were held scoreless the rest of the game. The bottom of the Mustangs' lineup provided most of the offense with J-Train Willems collecting 3 hits and Quincy McAfee lashing out 4.

Franics Pequero struck out the side in his inning of relief. Peguero has a 45/3 K/BB over 27.0 innings out of the pen. He was even more dominant during the second half of the season, posting an 18.0 K/9 whilst handing out just one free pass.

The Mustangs will take on the Idaho Falls Chukars in the best-of-three Pioneer League North Divisional Series, set to begin Sunday, Sept. 8, at Dehler Park. Games two and three will be played at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls. By clinching early, it will allow them to send their ace, Miguel Medrano, out in Game One again the Chukars.

Incidentally, this is a Chukar. Medrano should have no problem at all.

Billings was shutout in Game One by a margin of 2-0.

Miguel Medrano gave up both runs in four innings of work.
Omar Conoropo worked 4 hitless innings.
Johnnie Schneider pitched a hitless 9th.

Offensively, the Mustangs were held to 4 singles - 2 by Quin Cotton, 1 each for Reniel Osuna and Victor Ruiz.

It's on to Idaho Falls with no margin left for error.

Are there people who don’t know what a chukar is? in Rural Minnesota and New York, you can never go wrong buying an outdoorsman a bunch of live chukars for his hunting dogs to use for training.

I didn't know. We didn't have these in the mountains of Kentucky when I was growing up and living there into my early adult years.

Billings takes Game Two 4-3 to force a rubber game against Idaho Falls.

Noah Davis started and gave up 2 runs in 2 innings before the Mustangs pen took over. They went 7 strong innings allowing just 2 hits and one earned run over the final 7 innings. For the two games so far in this series, the bullpen worked 12 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run. Tonight it was Ian Koch, Alec Byrd, Ryan Dunne and Jose Adames that got the job done.

Reniel Ozuna singled three times, driving home a pair.
Leonardo Seminati doubled home a run and scored once.
    Jonathan Willems tripled and scored.
Quincy McAfee reached base three times - single, walk and HBP.

The rubber game of the series has been suspended after an inning and a half with Billings leading 1-0.

Quin Cotton singled and came around to score on a Victor Ruiz single.

Jose Salvador allowed a single in the first but struck out three.

Play will resume, weather permitting, on Wednesday.

And so the game was suspended once again due to the weather not cooperating. They will try again on Thursday. This time it will be a day game.
