This is the only Reds game I've cared about in well over month, and they're out there being their usual keystone cop selves.

And no, Luis is no ace. Long way to go.

Marty going scorched earth on MLB turning a blind eye on McGwire Sosa.

Yeah if he were an ace VanMeter would have made that catch.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

If he were an ace he wouldn't have walked three in a row.

He didn’t walk three in a row actually, but I’m actually not arguing that he is an ace. I actually hate the whole “ace” argument. I just see Castillo getting raked over the coals for what should have been a scoreless inning.

He walked three in the inning. No pitcher can expect not get away with an inning like that at the big league level. No matter if an error(s) are involved.

In the inning ≠ in a row. And yeah it is objectively Not Good to walk the bases loaded. But walks aren’t runs until the runners cross the plate, and they crossed the plate because JVM muffed a fairly easy play. Castillo has been responsible for some real stinkers in the 2nd half, on this one he’s a victim of circumstance.

Gausman in to pitch, O'Grady to left in the double switch, VanMeter out

If he doesn't walk those hitters the error by VM never happens either. That's the other way to look at it too.

There were no errors involved, it has been a generous scoring day for defenders today with the exception of the one charged when the Milw 2nd baseman he didn't even touch a blooper.
