I, of course, have no idea who he is...so I looked at his wikipedia page and it's already updated. "On October 24, 2019, the Cincinnati Reds announced the hiring of Zinter as their hitting coach."

I am going to give a full ignore to his time with the Padres, that team was really bad then. Interesting that he was an assistant hitting coach with the Astros in 2015.
"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.
I believe this is the first Reds jersey with a last name that starts with a Z since Pat Zachry.
Zinter and Ecker will work closely together to provide support for the Major League team. In addition, in his new role Ecker will have increased involvement in the creation and implementation of the organization’s hitting philosophies and protocols.
Williams said, “The structure for the hitting department will closely follow what we have recently instituted on the pitching side. The organizational philosophy will be articulated and implemented in a consistent way across all levels.”

Long bio short:
-- Long career as minor league Bull Durham type
-- Began with DBacks. Goldschmidt gives him some praise as helping him become the guy he is now.
-- Moved on to Cleveland and Francisco Lindor.
-- Made the majors as an assistant hitting coach and worked with Carlos Correa and others.
-- Moved from there to San Diego, where Will Myers and and Austin Hedges found their best success with him.
-- Did not have much success there and was fired after two years of very poor results.
A key quote makes him sound an awful lot like pitching coach Derek Johnson:
“I’m not a cookie cutter coach,” said Zinter. “What do they do best? I want to get them to understand that and get them to understand their mechanics and how to get them to repeat those mechanics. That’s where consistency lies. Obviously there are some points in hitting you want to get to. We stress those and teach those but everybody gets to those points differently and it’s OK. If you stand on your head and can get to the launch position on time I’m fine with that.”

Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. -- Carl Sagan (Pale Blue Dot)

This quote makes it sound like Ecker is the key guy moving forward and Zinter is simply working within that philosophy.

Similar to Chad Mottola, first round draft choice, long minor league career.
Mottola has been hitting coach for Blue Jays and now TB Rays.
Zinter's name is familiar as a former Mets draft choice. Hope he teaches Reds' hitters more patience at the plate.
