How I feel about this pretty much depends on what else they do in regards to the lineup and infield in general. Guessing this means Peraza and Iglesias are gone.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I don't mind this move. It secures a SS option for next year. And Galvis can be more of a utility guy if the Reds sign Gregorius or trade for someone like Seager or Correa.

    Galvis provides optionality -

Reds can acquire a shortstop and play Freddie at second.

Reds can acquire a second baseman and play Freddie at short.

Reds can acquire a CFer and pair Senzel/Galvis in middle infield.

I think Reds will make one of those moves - and a second move for a C or a corner OF.

Thank you to Jose Iglesias for a fun but short Reds career.

They brought Galvis and Peraza into Dick Williams' office. Galvis lost the coin flip.

The Reds team OBP last year was .315, 12th of 15 NL teams with tanking Marlins last and pitchers park Giants & Padres also trailing the reds. Freddy Galvis, since 2012, has topped a .300 OBP twice. He had a .302 in 2015 and a career high .309 in 2017. He is not the player the Reds should be handing a spot on the first day of the off-season. Aim higher and if nothing works out, he, or somebody like him, will be available in February for less than $5.5 Million.

I'd be happy to add him after the winter has played itself out. Now it seems like the team is settling for another year of sub-.500.

Terrible move. This franchise needed to get a shortstop this offseason. If they were going to punt shortstop again, why not just stick Blandino out there. He could possibly be a 1 WAR guy at league minimum. Literally every AL team passed on putting a waiver request in on him last season when he was waived and likely no one but the Reds put one in on him in the NL and yet his 89 WRC+ and sub 300 obp got him reupped for 5.5M. Dumb Dumb Dumb.

They aren't going to be paying him that much cash to be a utility guy.

Re: Reds to pick up Galvis option

I just really hope this isn't going to be a 2013 into 2014 offseason. Right after the game in Pitt Walt said he had a lot of work to do. That the team needed both a cleanup hitter and a leadoff hitter. Then weeks came and went and came and went. And the Reds did nothing to improve, and also did nothing to rebuild.

The real cause of the lost half decade was the offseason of 2013. That was the time when players still had value, and should've been dealt if you weren't going to add.

This team traded it's number 1 prospect for a pitcher with 1 year of control. This is the offseason that will determine whether Dick knows what he's doing or not.

So far, not a fan of either move made today.

Exactly. They've locked another position into below average production. Even if they get Rendon and Grandal, the offense has too many outs in the line-up.
