    Astros stolen signs scandal

Surprised no thread yet, this could be big.

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...e-signs-camera

The Houston Astros used a center-field camera to help steal signs during their 2017 championship season, a former Astros pitcher told The Athletic, a practice that would have run afoul of rules against using technology for an advantage and has prompted an investigation.

Mike Fiers, who now pitches for the Oakland Athletics, told the website that he warned teammates with the Detroit Tigers and A's that Astros hitters had used a video feed piped into a monitor near the dugout to decode signs and relay them to hitters during games.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Re: Astros stolen signs scandal

I doubt MLB will take action on this form of cheating, but I hope they do.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

Yep, Luhnow's responses in that press conference when they announced they had fired Taubman sealed it...

Luhnow came from the Cardinals, so this is not unexpected. I’m guessing stuff like this is one of the reasons why Jocketty refused to work with him.

Just like all the Cardinal victories during the Mozeliak era are forever tainted, so are all the Astros victories during the Luhnow era.

This was obviously going to come out exactly this way. Why wouldn’t you say something as soon as you don’t play for them anymore? Dumb.

Would not be sad at all if Jeff Luhnow and that whole ilk of McKinsey consultants turned baseball executives get booted out of the sport.

Makes the whistle charges from the Yankees more interesting. And reflects poorly on MLB’s ability to crack down on this.

Probably banking on guys keeping it quiet because they might one day end up back with the Astros.

If they are stealing signs this way, are they fixing the game?

In States that allow sports betting, did they commit criminal acts?
