    Re: The Cobra at Twilight

I finally got to watch this last night off my DVR. Very good documentary on Parker. As others have said it is very sad to see Parker now. You never know when an illness or afflliction will strike you. So make the best of your time while you are in good health.

Parker was the best player in baseball for a few seasons. IIRC, it would fall into the years of 1977 to 1979 before he started falling back some. That was probably due to his drug use. You do have to admire him for seeing what drugs were doing to him and being able to get off of them when he did. If he had not done that who knows what would have happened to him and he would have been largely forgotten today.

I will say if Ted Simmons makes the HOF then Dave Parker should be an easy choice to be in too. Parker was a much more dominant player for as many years as Simmons was. The only thing keeping him out is his drug involvement and his brashness probably got some of these voters on their wrong side. Just a shame personal things come between him getting into the HOF which he probably deserves.
