Hey Servo, explain your Konerko vote. You didn’t even vote for 10 players!

I want to know how Gary Sheffield isn't in the Hall. You'd think 500 HRs, a batting title, and a 140 OPS+ would be enough.

I'll answer for the second time - STEROIDS!

On December 13, 2007, Sheffield was named in the Mitchell Report as one of the players who had obtained and used steroids.

He was implicated in the BALCO scandal as his trainer was Greg Anderson, whom he saw almost daily when working out alongside Barry Bonds.

I am kind of surprised that I am the first vote for Pettite after 15 ballots have been cast. He racked up 68.2 fWAR for his career and pitched very well for a long period of time. I get that he was only an All-Star three times, despite being a hated Yankee, but he finished in the top 5 of the Cy Young 5 times.
He publicly admitted to using HGH.

    Bonds
    Clemens
    Jeter
    Jones
    Pettite
    Manny
    Rolen
    Walker

Tough debate on guys like Helton, Sheffield, Abreu, Kent. At the end of the day, I think these guys are just on the outside of being high enough caliber to be a hall of famer. You could make the argument Pettite and Andruw Jones belong in this group, but I gave them a nod on volume/post season performance for Pettite and Jones being one of the all-time elite defensive centerfielders.

Schilling should be a hall of famer, I just don't feel like feeling icky this morning.

Can the people who left Larry Walker off their ballot please explain? He is 28th all-time for OF in fWAR, had a .313/.400/.565 slash line, had 230 steals and played great defense. He also won the 1997 MVP, was a 6-time gold glover and was a 5-time All Star. This is his last shot to get into the Hall, what is the reason he should be left out?

It's looking like a terrible year for 1st ballot choices, once Jeter gets inducted we might not see any of these guys again on next year's ballot.

It was a ripple effect for me that caused a "No" Walker vote. I voted for five players that have been blacklisted & Jeter. That left me four slots. When I tried to determine who would get one of my remaining four votes, I found myself rationalizing, "If I vote for him, then I should also vote for him too..." I realized I needed more than ten votes which I didn't have and ultimately concluded to only vote for six and thus, no Walker.

Agreed. There’s no intelligent reason to put Mussina in, and leave Schilling out. Voters need to hold their noses, and check his box. Everyone will survive him giving a 20 minute speech and him sitting on stage for the next 30 years. He’s this generation’s Jim Bunning.

    I’ll bite I suppose.

Bonds was a 3x MVP and along with KGJ the best player in baseball....before he started the roids. Clemens to me was struggling to maintain his greatness for sure and all of a sudden he was back to the old Roger.

In my mind Bonds was a sure fire rock solid HOF without the roids....I’m not thoroughly convinced Clemens was going to bounce back to even all-star level without the roids.

I suppose one could call 1999 and 2000 "struggle years" for Roger Clemens. Let's suppose he didn't pitch again after those two years. He would finish 8th at that point in fWAR with 99.2 instead of #1 where he currently sits. However you slice it, he's a Hall of Famer, especially if you forgive the steroids.
