Kind of glad about this. I had concerns this could be a train wreck in Cincinnati. I feel like temptation is now removed.

Agree. I think it would have been a marginal improvement at best. And a complete disaster at worst.
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?

A marginal improvement? Over Mahle or whichever starter he would bump from a Reds rotation? That’s hysterical

MadBum could possibly have been a complete disaster, yes, he has mileage. But -

I can’t accept that he “would have been a marginal improvement at best.”

MadBum at best would have made a big positive difference, particularly in big games down the stretch.

I dunno I think his peripheral stats are still quite good and he's only 29. i.e. WHIP 1.127, SO/BB 4.72. Plus the dude is veteran presence, tough as nails and can hit. Would have been happy to have him.

I know the Reds were interested. I'm curious as to what their top dollar would've been on him. I probably would've went 4 for 75 million.

Look at his splits. He was atrocious the last two years on the road. Like really bad. Take him out of Oracle Park, plop him in GABP (as a low velocity, flyball pitcher) for most of his games and, yes, I strongly believe the best case scenario is that he would be a marginal upgrade. What do you have to back up your position?

Mahle and the rest of the Reds’ rotation candidates are terrible? That’s my take.

I think he has the potential to be really bad, and it could be worse if he ended up in GABP. He could be every bit as bad as Mahle, IMO.

Glad they passed for that price and length. I'd go for a small depth move. I still like Gio Gonzalez for the job. Spend on offense and bullpen.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Mahle has better road numbers than Bumgarner the past two seasons.

I'd be thrilled to see them pick up Gio, Dickerson and a bullpen signing or two. And you shouldn't have to break the bank to do it.

Which is just noise, statistically. Mahle can barely make it through the 4th inning most games. He has made no strides even under Johnson. They need to put him in the pen or trade him.
