That makes me very sad. He was great in interviews and game telecasts. A very smart man and a cerebral type of pitcher with some of the best stuff in the history of the game. I thought it would bring another title or two when the Reds picked him up in 1977. I wish nothing but the best for Tom Terrific.

When I was a kid in the early 80s, I had a plastic cup that said “Seaver. Never needs a reliever.” That is my first memory of him.

    Sad news

That's tragic. One of the things that always stood out about Seaver was his active mind. Hate to hear that's going on him.

Sadly he won't be at the 50th reunion of the 69 Mets.

Terrible disease that robs good people of dignity. Hearts and prayers to Tom Terrific and the entire Seaver family.

I wore number 41 on my company’s softball team for him.

I started my baseball addiction as a kid at the time Tom joined the Reds. He and Soto were my favs.

Tom was a good analyst to on TV. I’m a bit sad too...

I still pinch myself that he pitched for the Reds those several years and that he and Bench were batterymates then.

    The greatest battery ever.

I remember taking the TANK bus from my family’s home in Latonia about 10 times that summer of 1979 to see the Reds. Seaver pitched three of those games and won all three. He seemed bigger than life to my 12 year old self.

I only taped one game in my life on my little minature recorder. It was Seaver's no hitter. I deleted it, because nobody needed to hear some darned teenager scream "Yes, Yes, Yes" with Marty's final out call.

I hate to read of this. Seaver has a decent argument to be the greatest starting pitcher ever, depending upon what adjustments one believes should be made for changing playing conditions in different eras of the game. As others have noted, he was a cerebral pitcher who always seemed to be a well rounded person. Really sad, and only age 74.

This card was in the first pack of baseball cards I ever bought, so Seaver was always a favorite of mine, even before he became a Red.
