26 man rosters and it's not really all season since you can hide them on the DL with a boo-boo for 3 months.

And there are probably three to four times that many, but most clubs don't know who they are.

Rule 5 picks rarely work out but there have been a few. I'm not sweating losing any of our unprotected guys.

Same. I expect Friedl and AlfRod will be selected and returned. And I expect the Reds will return whoever they select.

Over 1,200 players in the bigs each year. A quarter of them were once Rule 5 eligible. A significant chunk of those players could have debuted a year earlier than they ultimately did.

    That's why scouts are valuable.

I'm more interested in who they might pick than who they might lose.

As am I. The Reds farm isn't as deep as others.

Minor league Rule 5 might be interesting. I assume minor league signing accelerates after this.
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

Re: Rule 5 draft on Thurs

I think the Giants are risking Garrett Williams. Left-hander, will be in 25 year old season, has not pitched AAA but pitched all last year at Richmond, AA. 110 innings, 88 hits, nearly 1 K per inning. 3.60 ERA, 1.35 WHIP. Wildness is an issue, but 60 rated curveball, up to 96 on his fastball, 1.93 GO/AO. Gave up only 6 home runs in those 110 innings, and that tendency is strong throughout minor league career. Backstory is interesting. One time projected first rounder, but had the thoracic outlet surgery as a high schooler and it pushed his draft spot way back. With the good breaking ball, strong ground ball tendency, low home run rate, he looks like a guy who could be stashed as a 13th man out of the pen, especially as a lefty. Then first half of next year back to AAA, stretch him out, and possible 5th starter for 2021. Looks to me like more than worthy of at least a spring training look.

Every player we lose to the rule 5 draft will obviously become HOFers within 20 years. But no commenter here would dare question whether it was a bad decision to expose them.. After all, why should we ever question the logic of our grand poobah of baseball operations? Why, the powers that be in the Reds organization have always been beyond reproach.. No? Well I can dream anyway.. OK, call it ignoring reality if you must. LOL

    Reds select Mark Payton?

Interesting 28 year old lefty hitting OF with 30 homers and 1.053 OPS in AAA

Reds passed next round. It's over for Major league portion. I didn't catch all names but part I heard I didn't hear anyone snagged from Reds
