    Didi to Philly

It looks like Didi wants to rebuild his value and test UFA next year. He was obviously comfortable in doing that with a stacked Phillies team.
And possibly because he played for and likes Girardi....

And you are spot on. He did this to hopefully have a Grandal like year and multiyear deal in 2021. Bet the Reds tried 3/36 or even 3/40.

How far in the future? I may not have that much time.

Uhhh, there is SOMETHING to suggest they didn’t- he signed with another team for that amount!

While true that guys don’t always sign with the highest bidder, they usually do on a one year contract (location and city preferences aren’t as important if not in it for the long haul, and Cincy is definitely a hitters’ ballpark/good place to rebuild value on a one year deal). Regardless, there is definitely SOMETHING to suggest the Reds didn’t beat that offer.

Maybe next year we'll be saying "Jose Garcia is ready". (Hopefully). Would solve a lot of problems for us.

Maybe Didi just wanted to play in Philly? That’s not all that far fetched. More goes into signing a FA than offering the most money.

You have no clue if they did or not. All indications are they likely did and he choose Philly.

So you're content to have Freddy Galvis as our SS with no backup (probably re-signing Iglesias) for the next year to see if a fringe top 10 club prospect MIGHT be ready two years from now?

I'm not thrilled with Galvis as the starting SS so hopefully the FO has something up their sleeve.

Or maybe the Reds have other plans/ targets. I don't get the Reds suck or aren't trying because they don't sign or trade for every player. They have a plan and maybe Didi was not part of it or they felt he was not worth that. None of us have any clue what is actually happening behind the scenes.

We don't know for sure if the Reds did or didn't top this offer. Players don't always sign with the highest bidder. Didi may have wanted to play for Girardi again and stay on the east coast.

But the Reds could have bid $18 million. Would Didi have walked away from $4 million more? The Reds did play a role in this decision. They could have made a pre-emptive bid.

IMO this is all about the one-year decision. Reds want to do things for a multi-year window. They don’t want to bank solely on 2020. They weren’t entering a bidding war for one season.

I’m guessing Reds offered Didi a nice three year package. He wanted more, so he took the one year from Philly. He hopes to be in a higher range next off-season.

I am very sure playing fir Giardi before with the Yankees had alot to do with this. Now if the Reds had named Giardi as manager over Bell, hmm makes you wonder ....
