So who's out there and available that you prefer over Galvis at this point? Lindor? Pipe dream that we're going to have to give up the farm for. Iglesias is our next best option and then we're the same team as last year.

I don't know why the team was so quick to spend a team record amount of money on Moustakas to play a position that isn't his natural position and that wasn't even a real positional need for us. All of this is super baffling to me.

My guess is that Didi really was not a high prioirity, the Reds were just bottom feeding to try to get a bargain.
Now, if the rest of the winter moves are good, I can forgive the Reds for not signing Didi, but some people here are apologizing too much for the front office. If Didi was a priority, the Reds could have given him a 2 year deal or more money for a single year (whatever Didi wanted)..

1 year at 14 million was certainly beatable.. And let's not pretend Didi was willing to take 2-4 million less to play in Philly instead of Cincy. Philly was a 500 team last year. Sure, that's better than the Reds but not exactly a "winner".

All we can do is hope the Reds have a better plan that does not have Didi in it.. let's see. I am skeptical, but let's see.
You may be right, the chatter to add an outfielder seems to be much higher.

2B was very much a position of need.

When a guy signs that quickly, they're probably not getting many other offers, especially considering his contract history. Also, he'll be playing second base, which is not his natural position. I'll take all his home runs and his oh so impressive .310 OBP but if it was at the cost of spending the extra cash to sign Grandal and/or Gregorious, it seems to be a huge miscalculation of where our needs were.

More than SS or CF? No way. Senzel could have slid right back into 2B. VanMeter can play there, So can Farmer and Galvis.

Didi had to want to sign the the Reds. Looks like he preferred Giardi and Philly. Moose is a better hitter than any of those guys you mentioned and has zero reason as to why the Reds didn’t get Didi

What else are Didi and/or his agent going to say? (Or if this source came from the Reds, same applies).
No one is going to come out and say "Well, the Reds weren't going to go higher than 13.5 million, so they lost out when Philly was willing to offer 14 million"...

I would take this comment with a huge grain of salt.
Reds want to be perceived as high rollers this winter to try to wake up a fan base that has fallen asleep and get them to buy tickets again.
The Reds ownership knows they only can abuse the fans so many years in a row before trying to win again.
That's one reason why Moustakas was signed so quickly..
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

If the Reds had paid Didi 19 mil, he’d be a Red right now.

It has everything to do with them not signing Didi. The Reds jumped on the opportunity to make their "sexy" (slash not really all that sexy) record breaking FA signing and had to do so quickly, which hamstrung them when it came time to the winter meetings when teams are always going to outbid the small market teams like Cincinnati. Didi may have wanted to reunite with Girardi but without the Moustakas signing, we had $14M more to convince him otherwise with.

Didi better put up a 5 war season for the way some are acting about him right now.

Why 5? Is that the pricetag for $14M? What Reds player put up a 5WAR last year?

I think the over under WAR for Didi would be about 2.5 and we are likely to get at least 1.5WAR out of Galvis.

He is almost definitely going to be better than Galvis, and the Reds didn’t pay what they had to land him. That’s all I really care about.

If this was more than a one year deal, I could understand not going all out to get him. But he fits in perfectly with their needs and their payroll capacity.
