Item two on the off-season checklist is complete.
Now - another bat, more relief pitching.

According to Dehner, in his 16 starts in 2018 with Johnson as his pitching coach his ERA was 2.57. So there's that...

He’s being paid appropriately as a 1-5-2.0 win player (which he has been over the last few seasons), with a contract appropriate for a guy on the wrong side of 30. It’s not gonna move the needle tremendously, but it’s good business if the team isn’t gonna dip into the “ace” market financially or with prospects.
I don’t dislike it at all. They just need to do more.

Good sign, more work is still needed from the front office.
Wade Miley had 3-4 other teams bidding for him, with at least one other multi-year offer in hand. Reuniting with pitching coach Derek Johnson, with whom he had great success in Milwaukee, was an important factor in his decision to sign with Cincinnati.
What would you say.....ya do here?

From Miley's time under Johnson's tutalege in Milwaukee:

I like the ground balls.
I don't like that Miley doesn't miss bats. That's dangerous in GABP.

I’ll file him under Good Pitchers. 2/15 is a nice deal for Good Pitchers. It makes me wonder if Mahle has come up in some trade talks recently. Dare I say trade talks that may include one Sterling Marte?

It’s not bad as long as they still plan to add another bat and a bullpen arm.
“The crows seem to be calling my name,” thought Caw.
Yeah I’ve been kind of thinking the same thing. Gray and Castillo are both great pitchers obviously, and Bauer has that ceiling. But they all seem to embody that argument between an “ace” and a number 1 pitcher, if you believe in that divide. Castillo when he’s on can be one of those sub 2 ERA completely dominate you type pitchers, but I would always take a Max Scherzer or Gerritt Cole head to head against them, and each of those teams had more than one of those guys.
I think some are giving Mahle way too much credit. I don’t think he’s a major league starter.
