Re: Reds are supposedly in talks with Tribe over Lindor

As I said in other threads, I have trouble giving up all the prospects.

But Senzel and India are most valuable as infielders. Moose and Suarez are signed long term now, covering the relevant infield positions. Easier for Reds to find OFers to replace Senze/India production.

If Reds decided to do the trade, I’d be excited about it, despite misgivings about the long-term value of the prospects.

I do wonder in all seriousness just how much of this is the Indians trying to drive up the price they ultimately get from LA. LA reluctant to include Lux? Well, another bidder would force that hand, wouldn't it.

Suggests that would be a huge return for the Indians
    Code:
    Name Pos	MTV ($Ms)
    DeShields Jr.	OF 8.0
    Lindor SS	63.4
       	   Total Value: 71.40

    Name Pos	MTV ($Ms)
    Galvis SS 0.4
    India 3B	30.0
    Santillan	RHP	13.1
    Senzel 3B	68.4
      	  Total Value: 111.90
From a production/cost standpoint, it's likely the Indians would come out ahead. The Reds are giving up 17 years of control of players expected to be major league contributors, one of whom has All-Star upside. The Indians are giving up an actual All-Star. DeShields & Galvis are just roster balance.

For me, that largely comes down to how you value Senzel and how much value you place on having the inside track at signing Lindor. I think I'd probably do that deal. But it's tough. We're really starting to thin out our prospect depth and that's going to bite us eventually. But if you never get good enough to compete, what's the point.
I can’t argue with the data.

But it appears India (30M) is pretty much the surplus the Indians would be getting.

Does one let Jonathan India stop an acquisition of Francisco Lindor?

I also wonder if the Reds/Indians talking is part of a larger Reds/Indians/Dodgers deal. Can't say I'd mind that at all.

Lindor is 1.5 years older than Senzel, let that sink in for a minute. For all those talking about Senzel's potential, it is quite possible we haven't seen peak Lindor either.

I'm higher on India than probably anyone on this board. But I wouldn't let him stop me from that trade.

Just a hunch, but I think you are right -- I think this is probably what the talks would center around. Although I imagine they choose Lodolo over Greene 99% of the time. But I think I would do Lodolo/India would get it done. Adding Stephenson seems like too much though.

Regarding Lindor, Indians are said to like Nick Senzel very much. Haven’t actually heard of a lot of talk between the teams yet but doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Interesting note from @Feinsand

This is interesting. Reds made Bauer deal with Indians and are a rare team with no qualms about trading top prospects (Trammell, Gray, etc.)

The Reds are the latest team to engage with the Indians about a potential Francisco Lindor trade, per source. It’s unclear if there’s any traction, but Reds have been aggressive on trade market before (Bauer, Puig) and have attractive trade chips (Senzel, India among them).

FWIW, Feinsand was first with the Miley signing. I wonder if he has a source with the Reds.

I don’t love the Senzel part of it either. If they have plans to buy a competent outfield afterward, I’m all for it. Otherwise you’ve got a mess out there once Senzel’s gone.

Re: Reds are supposedly in talks with Tribe over Lindor

    Feinsand has an article up:
    https://www.mlb.com/news/francisco-l...in-trade-talks

Reds general manager Nick Krall, speaking Wednesday as the club introduced Miley, was asked about the pursuit of a bat.

“Whether it’s the trade market or the free-agent market, we’ll do whatever we can to keep improving this club,” Krall said.

“You’ve got to have teams that are willing to trade players. I think it’s up to those teams. We’ve had talks in the trade market, and we’ve also had them in the free-agent market.”

Krall also said that even after signing Moustakas and Miley for a combined $79 million, the Reds have enough payroll flexibility to make more moves.

The Reds have a number of appealing young players who could be included in a trade package (Nick Senzel, Jonathan India, Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo), and they have a recent history of dealing with Cleveland, having completed the three-way deal last July that landed Bauer in Cincinnati.

Perhaps not, but you won't be seeing it for long anyway unless he agrees to an extension before the completion of a trade.

Meanwhile, Senzel is team controlled for a lot longer than Lindor. The Reds would presumably be giving up close to 2 decades of team control of highly-valued prospects.

Senzel is also not remotely as talented as Lindor.

Sorry folks, but it’s the truth.

This is nothing more than the Reds kicking the tires. Not going to happen.
