I didn't realize how good each of those pitchers was.
Maloney was truly dominant in an era where Cincinnati needed his every K.
Murphy provided unsung innings in holding together the bullpen for the entire team. He topped 100 IP out of the pen twice in his career. How many jams did he get out of? How many arms was he able to save just by throwing adequate innings?
And Schourek's rise from the dust bin of obscurity helped lead the '95 team to the brink of the World Series.
Is there a better Red pitcher number than 46?

Of course 41 brought us Joe Nuxhall and Tom Seaver.
It is on the whole probable that we continually dream, but that consciousness makes such a noise that we do not hear it. Carl Jung.
31: Bucky Walters, Jim O'Toole, John Franco
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.
meanwhile, bill bray wore #45.

a useful resource re numbers

44 isn't a pitcher's number, per se, but it's a good one:
Eric Davis (naturally)
Ewell Blackwell (as a 19-year-old before WWII)
Mike Leake
Adam Dunn
Mike Cameron
Charlie Leibrandt
Lots of underrated options there.
I wonder what Cincinnati uniform number would own the most WAR?

I think most people missed the reason for this thread.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Don’t click if you are trying to avoid any political (it’s light tongue in cheek) stuff.
But as far is political/baseball/media/Reds humor goes this is really good...
