Report: Indians Have Informed Other Clubs They Intend To Trade Francisco Lindor
If you’ve been even loosely following things for the past couple of years, the notion that the Indians will trade star shortstop Francisco Lindor this offseason should come as no surprise. Still, it’s nevertheless of some note to see USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweet that Cleveland has informed other clubs of their intent to trade Lindor before Opening Day.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. -- Carl Sagan (Pale Blue Dot)

Is it possible for the president of the Reds to go on live TV and claim Lindor as their own?

Keep in mind that Lindor will make around $20M in arbitration plus prospects and that there are three SS's in free agency that are likely to cost less.
I’d off Santillan and India.
Indians say No?
Oh well.
What would you say.....ya do here?

It's not my money. If Castellini says he's okay with that, it'd go a long, long way to fixing what was wrong with the Reds last season.
That said, I'm guessing the Indians will have to take some money back.
For example, I'd want Cleveland to take back Iglesias along with a couple prospects not named Greene, Garcia, Stephenson, or Lodolo. That'd cost the Reds about $10M instead of $20M or so, and it'd allow Cleveland to perhaps get something back at the deadline for a decent relief arm under control for another year.
If Cleveland balks at that, perhaps they could take several players who are arb-eligible, then non-tender them soon after. It'd be money the Reds save, but Cleveland doesn't have to pay. For example, I could see them taking Santillan, India, Michael Lorenzen, Brian Goodwin, and Robert Stephenson, then perhaps non-tendering at least two of the three arb-eligibles soon thereafter.
It'd allow the Reds to save some cash without the PR hit. It allows the Indians to claim they received a fair offer.

...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

I'd love Lindor, but there's no way anyone can justify giving up what it's going to take to get him to have him leave in a year.
