I had friends who were fringe NFL players, and a Kicker or two among them. It's often just a matter of having the right agent. Sounds like MacGinnis can't get the right agent. The agents are 100% in charge of getting their players tryouts.

The Bengals are huge six-point underdogs, or about two missed field goals.

Re: 2020 Cincinnati Bengals Thread Part 2: The Joe Burrow Era is Almost Here!

    From Rotoworld w/ Rotoworld comments:

Chargers CB Casey Hayward was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1. Hayward was thrown at a whopping 16 times by Joe Burrow, allowing eight catches for 82 scoreless yards in his coverage, but Hayward batted a couple passes and racked up an absurd 12 solo tackles in the Bolts' win. That's a lofty amount for a cornerback. Now 31, Hayward remains one of the best corners in the sport.

The Browns don't have anyone even close to this good, so things should be much easier for Burrow and the Bengals' Offense.

As a Browns fan that gives me hope. Cleveland looked awful.

But as I've learned over the years...Vegas knows.....

Re: 2020 Cincinnati Bengals Thread Part 2: The Joe Burrow Era is Almost Here!

Dodged a bullet with Reader as his absense makes the Bengals' Defense unable to stop the run.

As it is, they are going to have to figure something out to improve it, but it's not likely to happen on a short week.

    From Rotoworld w/ Rotoworld comments:

Bengals DTs Geno Atkins (shoulder) and Mike Daniels (groin) are out for Week 2 against the Browns. The NFC North foes square off Thursday night in Cleveland. With Atkins and Daniels out, the Bengals will rely heavily on D.J. Reader and Christian Covington to play significant snaps inside. It's a boost to Nick Chubb's matchup as a six-point home favorite.

    From Rotoworld w/ Rotoworld comments:

Tee Higgins played 15-of-68 snaps (22 percent) in Week 1 against the Chargers. He wasn’t targeted in a loss to the Chargers. Higgins looked behind John Ross, Auden Tate, and Mike Thomas. A hamstring injury slowed Higgins in Bengals camp, but his role should grow as the season moves along

    From Hobson...

Browns sack ace Myles Garrett, who had a docile opener in the 38-6 loss to the Ravens, can pick his tackle to rush but he has been working more and more at left end. That puts Bengals right tackle Bobby Hart under the microscope again after his struggles against the Chargers' Joey Bosa on Sunday.

    As they say,.....hide the children.

    From Hobson...

It'll be a great matchup on Thursday night," Jackson said. "I just got to be physical on the outside. We have to set the edge and we have to tackle. Coach has been saying that all week. We just have to tackle those guys. They are great running backs. They aren't going to go down with just arm grabbing. We have to go out there and be physical." Speaking of the running game, don't you know what the Browns are going to try and do? The Bengals defensive tackles continue to battle numbers. Even before training camp got going, they lost three for the season (Josh Tupou, Ryan Glasgow, Renell Wren), while Geno Atkins (shoulder) missed the opener and now he and Mike Daniels (groin) are out for Thursday.

Chubb and Hunt looked to be an afterthought against the Ravens after a combined 23 carries netted nearly six yards per carry. Not if it's close. Linebacker Germaine Pratt, off a career-high 12 tackles, looks like a different guy from last year's rookie season and although the Chargers nicked the Bengals for 155 yards rushing, their run defense looked more organized with new strong safety Vonn Bell entrusted with the helmet radio.

"A huge jump. We did a huge jump," Pratt said. "We've got to create some turnovers. We didn't have (any) turnovers. The Chargers had two. That's the reason they probably won the game, because they won the turnover margin. So we've got to get some turnovers. We've got to figure out how to create some turnovers to get Joe Burrow and them going on offense."

If WJIII has returned to form, we've not only solved the Trae Waynes injury replacement issue, but have made an upgrade.

Bottom-line, our LB's need to tackle runners at first contact.

Re: 2020 Cincinnati Bengals Thread Part 2: The Joe Burrow Era is Almost Here!

    From Rotoworld's C.D. Carter...

    Tight End

C.J. Uzomah (CIN): I don’t think you’re starting Uzomah unless you’re in a 14-team tight end premium league with five flex spots. Maybe your league mates inexplicably love to fill their benches with tight ends in normal sized leagues, leaving you at the waiver wire scrap heap. That might be not as terrible as one might think if Uzomah is available. Coming off a Week 1 performance in which he saw five targets (catching four for 45 yards) and led the Bengals in tight end snaps (72 percent), he gets a Browns Defense missing their starting safety. Cleveland might start Ronnie Harrison at safety against the Bengals on Thursday night; Harrison has been with the team for less than two weeks.

Thirty-six percent of Baltimore’s Week 1 targets against the Browns went to tight ends -- namely, Mark Andrews, who roasted Cleveland. Browns opponents often attacked the Cleveland defense via tight end in 2019. More than 21 percent of targets against the Browns went to tight ends -- only nine teams had a higher rate. The Browns allowed an average of 6.5 targets per game to enemy tight ends, along with ten touchdowns. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor seems to be privy to the Browns’ weakness against tight ends: Cincy tight ends got 10 targets in a Week 17 game against Cleveland.

2020 Cincinnati Bengals Offseason Thread 2

    From Rotoworld's Evan Silva...

Joe Burrow’s box score didn’t fully reflect the promise he flashed in his NFL debut; the Chargers’ stacked defense and Joey Bosa in particular kept him under heavy duress. Across all Week 1 games, only three offensive lines yielded more pressure than Cincinnati’s (33.3%). Yet Burrow stayed unflinching in the pocket, showed his athleticism with 8/46/1 rushing – keyed by a 23-yard TD on a QB draw – and marched his team nearly 80 yards on Cincy’s final drive, only for K Randy Bullock to shank the game-tying kick. The Bengals’ protection woes remain likely to be exposed by Myles Garrett & Co. on Thursday night, and Burrow is a two-quarterback-league play only. But for one-game DFS purposes, I like Burrow’s chances of outscoring struggling Baker Mayfield straight up.

    Re: 2020 Cincinnati Bengals

The UNDER is 14-4 (77.8%) in CIN's last 18 games as an underdog.

Would love to see a lot of people lose money on this, and not only have Cincy cover, but win the game outright.

The curse of Prime Time lifts tonight Mike Brown will not be in attendance. First game missed in person since 1991...1991 was the start of our descent into the abyss that is Bengal football.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.
