Me too. Slight improvement; but not enough. Question marks at production OF positions IMO.

I feel the same way. Moose seems like heís a move to vastly improve, but the others seem like moves to make gains, but not huge ones, and fill roles for players with upside but unknown/unproven ability to hit that upside. Aka. Guys that could bring back pieces in a signature move trade.

    That's where I'm at.

1B, 2B, 3B, CF, and LF all look to be at least league average offensively, IMO.

All five starters are league average or better, IMO. (You can argue Miley.)

The bullpen is a little better than league average as a whole, with upside replacing veterans.

Weak spot at SS. C too (offensively, at least.) RF is questionable.

Depth is really good in the OF.

The key is Senzel, IMO. I suspect Williams will move him to SS if he can't find a guy he likes in a trade.

I'm not sure but lots of people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they really expect it to happen.

    Re: In your opinion...

I would give the Reds a B+ to this point. At first the Moose signing was seen as an overpay, but when you really look at the market and see what other players are getting, I believe the Reds got a solid deal. Then there was the Wade Miley signing, which the Reds got a GREAT rate on. Shogo was also a solid deal.

So for me, that is a B offseason, but I am going to give them the + because of the Reds being aggressive knowing the rest of the NL Central is in flux. They are seeming to strike while the iron is hot.

Having said all that, I also believe the Reds arent quite finished.

Some of us see Senzel as a (very good) defender at 2B and 3B, realize defensive metrics can be gamed a bit by intelligent positioning, and believe a league average or better bat at the SS position-- even attached to a relatively poor glove-- would make the Reds a better team.

We look at Nick Senzel and see Ben Zobrist.

    YMMV

How do we know that Senzel is a very good defender at 2B and 3B, especially after having surgery on his throwing shoulder? I am actually very concerned about his shoulder, and how it might affect him defensively in the future.

It well might affect him negatively.

We "know" he's a good defender at both 3B and 2B because he earned best defensive player at those positions in the minors. Not to throw around scouting reports, but he also has a strong, accurate throwing arm and is very fast. Fast players who are praised by minor league managers as being defensively adept are also typically quick and don't make many errors. (Which jibes with his minor league error totals.)

    Re: In your opinion...

It would make way more sense to put Suarez at short, Senzel at second, and Moose at third. Coming off shoulder surgery moving Senzel to short makes no sense. Just seems there are too many outfielders. Feels like a trade is imminent especially if the Reds are actively pursuing Ozuna.

I'd like to believe that decision makers in the Reds front office send on threw field personnel are much better equipped than a bunch of randos on an internet discussion board to determine whether Nick Senzel is capable of playing SS.

Senzel should be able to bring back two quality bullpen arms.
