    Red Sleeper

Last year, Robert Stephenson came back from oblivion, to many posters' collective surprise, to become a solid bullpen contributor.

The year before, both David Hernandez and Jared Hughes put up All-Star level production in limited bullpen innings.

In 2017, Eugenio Suarez cemented himself as a first division starter after basically being ignored by most national experts as nothing more than filler, and Scott Schebler hit 30 HR and looked like a real steal as a solid, developing OF. (Alas...) 2017 also brought Luis Castillo and his electric stuff up from the minor leagues.

Who is this season's sleeper Red?

I'll say Cody Reed. He stays healthy and adds a quality left hand arm to the bullpen, showing the ability to get both lefties and right handed hitters out.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Ironically Senzel. Obviously health is an issue, but it's amazing how many fans have written even his bat off after his debut. I think his bat could really surprise these naysayers this year.

Mahle is another, if and when he gets called on to jump into the starting rotation.

Reed, Senzel, and Mahle are quality choices. But I'll go with Aquino. I think a lot of people are wondering if he can continue. I think he will, although obviously not at the HR clip he was on last year.

All good choices. I’ll go with these two.

Trevor Bauer will do what Sonny did in 2019

And Joey Votto will say I’m not done yet. He’ll produce better than last year and be an .800+ bat.

yeah, he probably only hits 55-60 HR's this season

Jose Deleon. I wouldn't count on it, but I have a hunch he'll be the shut down guy in the late innings by the end of June.

He gets my vote. If for no other reason than he probably possesses the nastiest stuff of any of the current candidates.

I kind of agree. I think Amir GArrett has really nasty stuff, but we haven't seen him be able to maintain it for a full season either out of the rotation or the bullpen. I still like him as an arm in the pen, but I can't call him "the" arm in the pen. He simply falls short of that over a full season.

    Re: Red Sleeper

I'll go with Disco. He put up a 3.49 ERA with a 1.038 WHIP over his last 14 starts in 2019 and 2020 is a contract year so he has all the motivation to put up a big season. I think he gets overlooked when most people discuss the Reds rotation, but he showed that's he capable of pitching like a #3 the last 3 months of the season. He really only had one bad start in June which was a game @ Milwakee, and I have my suspicions that they were partaking in some Astros like activities during home games.

I’m going DeLeon and Reed. Davidson could put up huge power numbers in GABP if he makes the team.

Does Votto count? I think he bounces back to somewhere between 2017 and 2018

If I have to pick someone out of nowhere, I'll say Lucas Sims

If he does that, most of the concerns I have are solved. The Reason I think they need more offense is because I think they'll need to compensate for Votto's continuing decline. Votto is the best hitter in Red's history IMO. I'd love to see him rebound for a year or two. It would significantly improve the Reds chance to win and would certainly boost his case for Cooperstown.

Here's hoping you are right about this one.
