Perhaps I'm just paranoid, but the timing of the Marte deal makes me wonder if they were waiting on the Castellanos signing? If so, were the Reds interested in Marte or Dbacks in Castellanos?

The Reds were interested in Marte earlier in the offseason but then signed Akiyama. I thought either the Padres or Mets would get Marte.

Arizona's farm system is loaded, especially in the lower levels. Malone has a real chance to be a major league starter, and Peguero absolutely raked in the Pioneer league as an 18-year-old. I'd compare it loosely to a Santillan and Jose Garcia package.

Gonna love seeing that lineup without Marte/Dickerson/Melky 19 times this season, including the last four of the year.

I like it. Getting Marte out of the division helps everyone in the NL Central. That move in itself increases our odds of a WC spot. Plus the Pirates got a couple of 18 year olds I have never heard of.

It will also help the Reds in the Wildcard race if the Pirates end up being a 100 loss team. Those early 2010 teams really benefited from destroying Houston.
