Didn't Jim Mcintyre leave after the 70 season to be replaced by some fellow named Al?

When McIntyre and Joe Nuxhall were paired up, they were “Jim and Joe on the radio”. Item ember that tag line.

IIRC, Claude Sullivan took over play by play after Waite Hoyt retired but then he died of cancer within a year or two.

Sullivan was just before my time of being a sports fan. I do know he was an extremely popular broadcaster for UK sports for many years. UK, in fact, kept two sets of announcing teams because of their popularity. The other being Cawood Ledford. Sullivan left UK sports for the Reds as stated in the link in 1964. He developed throat cancer not long after that and died in 1967. He was only in his 40's when he died. If he had lived he most likely would have been the Reds main PBP announcer during the BRM years and Marty Brennaman may have never been with the the Reds.

I remember Jim and Joe very well. Sullivan was before my time.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

My earliest memories are of Marty Brennaman and Joe Nuxhall on radio, and Bill Brown and Ray Lane on television.

As a little kid, I didn't know what Marty & Joe looked like, so in my head I pictured Joe as looking kind of like James Stewart, while Marty resembled Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker.

So you basically got Marty right. I remember McIntyre, but barely.

I started following the Reds in 1968 so Jim and Joe on the radio is my first exposure to Reds radio broadcasting. And Jim's home run call: High and to deep to left, It might be, it could be, IT IS!. And that's also when Joe started shouting in the background "Get out, get out, get out".

1969, double header against the Braves, Lee May was on a roll and hit 2 homers the night before. Hit 2 in the first game(the first a grand slam) and 2 in the 2nd game. I remember how it seemed like he hit 10 of em that day and how Jim and Joe in the background were having a lot of fun.

If my memory is correct Gene Kelly replaced Jack Moran in 1962 and When Burger Beer lost the sponsorship in 66 Both Hoyt and Kelly were replaced by Jim McIntiyre and Claude Sullivan then in 1967 Joe Nuxhall joined them.Sullivan passed away around a year later,McIntyre left in 1970 I think then Al Micheals joined Joe until Marty came in in 74.

Just watch, this is the Reds; they'll trade him as part of a package for an undersized second baseman, a mediocre pitcher who's related to somebody famous, a defensive specialist, and a couple of spare parts. They'll probably throw in Helms and others for good measure. Bunch of incompetents.

My biggest memory of Claude Sullivan is that I listened to him calling the Texas Western -Kentucky championship game on the radio in 1966. I think he was the Wildcats regular announcer.

That was July 15 1969 my 16th birthday and my parents took me to those games and yes Lee May jacked two homeruns in each game. After the second one in game two they decked poor Tommy Helms.

I can safely say you missed it. The poofy haired, pink shirt wearing fella was no Archie Bunker
