Personally, I would try to sign Castellanos and Holt and another bullpen guy, and then use Aquino/Winker/Ervin and perhaps India and someone like Packy Naughton and package a deal to perhaps upgrade SS a bit.

Reports saying Rangers might be out. Reports have also said they like him but want him playing 1B

Surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention that Castellanos could potentially spell Votto against lefties. If they’re willing to have guys bounce around the field (Senzel taking games at 2B, Moose at 3B, Akiyama at CF or a corner) they could get away with signing him without a trade being necessary.

Yes, but can he match JV's windmill 360, huh?

Assuming you’re talking established shortstop, established reliever, this is a very expensive idea.

Castellanos, Holt, vet shortstop, vet reliever added. Lots of cheap talent subtracted in trade.

I’m not sure Reds would do all this from a financial viewpoint.

A lot of chatter on twitter tonight RE: Castellanos. Not least from His brother and mom “liking” random Reds fans tweets about wanting him. These are legit their accounts, too.

Still say if we add another OF, it will lead to adding a SS, or at the very least help behind the plate. I believe the FO really wants a Division crown (and hopefully more) and I think Castellanos would give them the surplus to upgrade short or catcher. I also don't believe missing on Castellanos takes the Reds out of dealing to strengthen the everyday eight.

I'm also expecting another bullpen arm and a surprising minor league deal/ST invite (could be one and the same)., before camp really gets ramped up.

    Well, isn’t that interesting.

And was it just Reds fans they were re-tweeting? I’m useless when it comes to twitter or I’d try to find out myself, lol.

Rangers GM Jon Daniels publicly stated they aren't adding additional free agents.

Get it done, Dick. It's not an OF "log-jam". It's a bunch of question marks.

    Re: Reds interested in Castellanos

Debbie Downer time. I'm having mixed emotions on Castellanos. From all reports, he's a poor OF defender and projects as a DH type, which the Reds don't have. His offense is great, but I'm not so sure a platoon of Ervin and Winker may be equal production. Then, there's the issue of Senzel. Where does he play? To be fair, I'm not as sold on him as many of you are. Not much on the MLB resume' due to multiple medical issues, to just "give" him starter status. He's a man without a position, imo. They didn't sign the Japanese free agent for all that money to be a bench/platoon guy. He will play. But, OTOH, I'm a change agent. If it makes the Reds better, then go for it. Let's hope those in charge have a plan and can make it all fit.
