    Nice MiLB article on Boddy

Boasting one of the Majors' largest analytics departments, Cincinnati has taken positive steps to improve its pitching of late. For a team that plays half its games in a hitters' haven, the Reds tied for eighth last year with a 4.18 ERA and ranked fourth in xFIP (4.10, per Fangraphs). After finishing 27th in fWAR for pitchers in 2018, they leapfrogged all the way to ninth in 2019.
On the flip side, the team's interview process stood out to Boddy, who likened it to what he'd seen from one of his former employers -- Microsoft. "I walked in at 8 a.m. and the first thing they gave me was an itinerary, a one-sheeter," he said. "The Reds were like, 'Hey, this is the direction we're going in. These are the interviews you've got and you've got to impress all of these people and this is what you're expected to talk about.'"
As with his training techniques at Driveline [where he remains involved, although he's delegated some of his previous workload] that have helped pitchers go viral with 100-plus mph pitches, Boddy will be incorporating weighted balls and tech tools like Trackman and Rapsodo to better understand velocity, spin rates and movement on the horizontal and vertical planes from individual pitchers. A biomechanics lab will be at the team's facility this spring.

The fact that he welcomes/respects that type of interview tells me he is on board with the Reds organization. And frankly, hat tip to the Reds for such an interview style. They weren't looking for the "best" (in a vacuum) guy, they were looking for the "right" guy for their philosophy.

Interesting. His remarks at the end, relating to guys like Andy Fisher, seem very revealing. In effect, Boddy's the "stuff" coach. He acknowledges that he's not about control or pitchability. Those things are for the pitching coach. Boddy develops tools. He wants to work with the guys who already have the feel and the mental game and help them with the raw materials. It's a pretty clear delineation of responsibility.

Boddy's assertion that he can add mph for pitchability guys gives me some hope for guys like Naughton.

It's so refreshing to see this. For the fifteen years I've been around this board the question has consistently been asked every year: "Why can't we develop pitching?" To the point where people wanted us to stop even trying and just trade for it.

It's nice to see us leading the pack on something.
