2nd as long as he recommits himself to getting on base.

2nd, still one of the few Reds who gets on base, need that in front of the swing away crew.

    Can we still say that?

Sans Galvis (and perhaps Aquino), the rest of the lineup looks down with OBP.

Suarez, the Winker/ Ervin platoon, Votto, Akiyama, Castellanos (345+ the last two years in over 1300 PAs) are all well above average.

Moustakas and Barnsali are average, as is Senzel.

He starts the season batting #2 vs Righties, on the bench vs Lefties.

If he is struggling, he gets moved to 6th/7th.

If he is beyond struggling, he gets benched and Castellanos moves to 1B.

The Reds are all in on winning, so anyone who isn't performing will see their PT reduced. Votto included.

Lineup order subject to change if the Reds trade for a SS.

    Shogo

    Galvis
    Aquino/ Winker
    Barnhart/ Cassali

I think we need to put Joey back where he thrived at the number 3 hitter role. It is our last chance to see if he can be Joey again and I know it sounds old school but I think it might right the ship. Shogo at lead off and a combination of Winker and Senzel in the second hole sets up the Votto, Suarez (who should be clean up) and Castellanos/Moose combo alternating 5 and 6. If Joey excels, I think we are playoff bound, if not we shift him and hope for the best.

The question beside where he hits is also whether Bell will sit/rest him more often, particularly against lefties.
Definitely needs to sit more against lefties. Could start Ervin, Senzel and Cast in the outfield and put Aquino at first against tough lefties.

Votto is not a top of the order hitter anymore. Unless he really turns it around, I'd bat him 6th.

If anyone is playing first it is Castellanos. Aquino is the best OF of the 3 corner guys in that.

I think Senzel profiles for a higher OBP eventually. He was really good in the minors anyway. That was maybe my biggest disappointment with him last season (other than injuries).

With Bell's musical chairs lineups, what does it matter?

8th is a perfect spot for a player who is good at Walks and Doubles with no speed.

Votto's probably going to lead the team in OB this season. So, yeah, I'd hit that up near the top of the lineup.

Can't argue with that. I stand corrected. Either way, would love to see Nick and Aristedes both hammering on a poor left-handed pitcher!

Re: Where do you bat Votto?

    Today my lineup would be:

    CF Shogo
    RF Castellanos
    1b Votto
    3b Suarez
    2b Moustakas
    LF Winker/Ervin
    SS Galvis/other
    CA Barnhart/Casali

Senzel would be a super utility guy if he's not traded.
