I believe this is actually part 3 of the thread.

It's been a pretty busy off season

Just reading tea leaves here and pure conjecture...

But with the news that the Reds are shopping Senzel, have went after Seager this year, and are only truly paying Castellanos 10 million this season....

Theres an awful lot of smoke to say the reds are going to try hard for Seager in the next week.

Seems like the Dodgers were really only interested in trading Seager if they got Lindor. Somebody else mentioned Chris Taylor as an option. I could definitely see that happening.

A previous post said that the Castellanos option may have been hit upon as mutually beneficial; Reds may be pleased if it is exercised; others like Aquino may then deserve more playing time for less money than Cast receives.

This is a common argument in these situations, but the option is not mutually beneficial. The player has full control over its exercise. It will be exercised in the player’s best interest, not the team’s. The more value Castellanos has, the more likely he walks.

Circumstances may evolve so the exercise is ok or even helpful to the Reds. But that would be happenstance. The option is the player’s.

Dick Williams just said (paraphrasing) in the hot stove report that they’re not done spending this offseason (though they are edging towards where they expect the payroll to fall). Said they still have targets and trade options on their radar to improve the bullpen.

Sounds like they may be expecting to head into the Spring with Galvis at short.

It sounds like they tried to improve SS, but it just wasn’t there on any kind of reasonable basis.

    You can’t force a trade.

Is Tim Beckham still available as a free agent? Edit - I see he received a PED suspension, wasn’t aware of that. Stick with Brock Holt.

    I wouldn't want Taylor......strikes out almost 33% of the time. Last year: 366 ab's-115 K's.
    Reds need on base hitters.

GABP should help Castellanos, but how much?
