I first read about the alleged incident in Suzanne Finstad's 2001 biography of Natalie Wood, Natasha. Finstad did not name the alleged assailant, but she did indicate that he was someone two decades older than Natalie Wood, and provided other information as to his identity. There was speculation that no one was named because that person was still alive, and how can you successfully defend a libel suit regarding an alleged incident that occurred a half century earlier, with the alleged victim long since dead and no forensic evidence available?
Anyway, I met Lana Wood in November of 2017 and I posed the question to her. She confirmed the incident occurred and named the assailant, without hesitation. That still doesn't prove it happened or who the assailant was.
I still doubt that Lana sends flowers.

...and most people who knew Natalie Wood would not send flowers for her.

Interesting. I think Amazon also funded a flick called Peterloo which the Trotskyites over at The World Socialist Web Sight are just creaming over. Interesting movie.

Really? I am curious to learn of the basis of that assertion.
Let me first say that while I have not kept up with the funeral arrangements for Kirk Douglas, if there is or was a public ceremony I would expect a significant turnout, and while Lana Wood won't send flowers I assume a lot of Hollywood will do or did so. Douglas was a talented and charismatic actor who left an impressive list of films. With his passing about the only star left alive from the old studio system is Olivia de Havilland. He also left a son and daughter-in-law who are significant stars in their own right.
Second let me correct an error in my prior post. I met Lana Wood in Williamsburg, VA in March of 2017, not November of 2017. In November of 2019 I met John Wayne's son Patrick Wayne. One of Patrick's film credits is a role in perhaps his dad's finest film, The Searchers. Natalie and Lana Wood also appeared in that film. Patrick spoke very warmly of Natalie, though not so much of Lana.
Natalie Wood had a bit of a wild side as she broke out of child actor roles, such as in Miracle On 34th Street. In her career making role opposite James Dean in 1955's Rebel Without A Cause, she was having an affair with both actor Dennis Hopper, her contemporary, and with the film's director Nick Ray, more than twice her age. However by the 1970s Natalie, in her second marriage to Robert Wagner, from all accounts I've read was very well liked by the Hollywood community. The honorary pallbearers at her 1981 funeral were Rock Hudson, Frank Sinatra, Sir Laurence Olivier, Elia Kazan, Gregory Peck, David Niven and Fred Astaire, members of the then Hollywood royalty, as was she.
In his 1983 book Adventures in the Screen Trade (a terrific read BTW), screenwriter William Goldman wrote of the Wagners "they were as well liked as any in the Hollywood community." He added that "few deaths in recent years have upset so many. Thirty years a star and a lady every year. Remarkable..."
Robert Redford has written that Natalie's "passing left a scar on my fond memory. She was not only talented, but a youthful, eager beauty who seemed always to be blossoming. Hers was a personality that enjoyed and loved life. She is very much missed."

When Douglas died Twitter was overrun with celebs posting pictures of Natalie Wood, if that's any indication. I was a huge Kirk Douglas fan as a kid, but when I read about these allegations a couple of weeks ago, they seemed more than credible.

Please, I'm not sure what your problem is here, but it seems like you answered what you wanted me to say instead of what I said. Please don't do that. Like I said, the Twitter link is what's there now, not what was happening at the time.

The name I mentioned doesn't exactly fit in that category. Believe what you want to believe.

I sure don't believe it. I don't buy such allegations after all are deceased. You wanna get my attention, bring these things forward when they can be litigated.

As I said earlier, I read about this a few weeks prior. If you've checked the story out, Natalie Wood's mother is said to have nixed prosecution at the time to keep Wood's career from being derailed. Unfortunately, this was common with rape until fairly recently. This is why newspapers didn't tend to print the names of rape victims.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. It's not there.

Amazing to me is that there's more talk of this claim now than there was of Kobe Bryant raping a girl and that one had a lot more evidence than this one.

Well, that is a pretty high bar. Wood has been dead for almost 40 years (and probably murdered by her husband), and she was 16 when it happened and was forced to keep silent. There is no DNA or even a police report, so any evidence would certainly be extraordinary. My guess is that he did it, and hopefully he realized he dodged a bullet and lived his life accordingly after that.

And I don't get the Kobe love at all. He was a philanderer his whole life (and I don't care, it's his business), and I don't want anyone to die like that, but it doesn't make me weep.

Exactly on Natalie Wood. At this point it's pretty much impossible to prove.

As for Kobe, I agree with you. I get the love for his skills on the court but I get sickened by the folks praising him for being a great father and husband. No, great fathers don't screw around on your kid's Mom. Good fathers don't sexually assault other women.
