    dinner with art shamsky

    Great reds stories

we talked about when he pinch hit for frank robinson - he homered off tom parsons

when Juan Marichal struck him out three times in agame, catcher tom haller said to him, its cold enough here inSFran just hit the ball
he mentioned playing in Macon and Geneva with Tomy perez, Pete Rose

    He is a wonderful chap

In 1966, Shamsky became the only player to hit three home runs in a game, while not being in the starting lineup - entered the game in a double-switch.

he had a great story about the giants, it seems he had struck out 3 times against marichal and it was freezing in sf, he then came up for the fourth time and swung and missed at ball one catcher tom haller said to him its cold enough here without you making another breeze hit the darn ball somewhere

I have just started reading a book about the history of Crosley Field. Shamsky has a chapter early that book about his time at Crosley and he of course talks about this. That was quite a feat!

And a nice article about Charlie James. Back when ball players were regular people.
