“The best pitch in baseball is a well located fastball.”

I was pondering this today and I don’t know the answer.

We’ve all heard this cliche quote a billion times...is it true?

Why is a well located fastball more effective than a well located slider or curveball?

Does anyone have any stats to prove or disprove this famous cliche?
What would you say.....ya do here?

You could look at pitch values and whatnot based on PA outcomes, but I think a big part of this truism is that a well-placed fastball enables the rest of your arsenal. That's a lot harder to measure.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

The worst pitch in baseball is a hanging curve.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.
