    Will Bauer try that in the regular season?

    Trevor Bauer

    After a record-setting collegiate career at UCLA, Bauer was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the third overall selection in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft and made his big league debut with the team in 2012. The following offseason he was traded to Cleveland, where he pitched for the Indians for six-and-a-half seasons, won 67 games and made the American League All-Star team in 2018.

    Remember how outspoken Bauer has been about pitchers increasing their spin rate by applying a foreign substance to the baseball? In his final 4 starts last year his spin rate increased significantly. Increases that he said can't happen without applying a foreign substance to the ball. Now it could be that it happened naturally but as we have seen lately, people who loudly accuse people of doing certain things are usually guilty of doing those same things.

    First thing I had to do was look up what a "cacophony" was! LOL

    Yeah, I can see how it's going to be somewhat "complicated" when it comes to enforcement on the foreign substance. Other then being caught in the act (it has happened), wouldn't one have to prove, show evidence, that it was the pitcher who put the foreign substance (pine tar) on the ball?

    Pat down the pitchers before they take the mound each inning. I love a good public strip search. Or would that fall under stop and frisk? (LOL)

    Leo Durocher said he used to sharpen his belt buckle when he played SS to scuff/cut the ball and he'd give it to the pitcher to throw. So I suppose a SS or 2B could doctor the ball but then the pitchers would have to plead ignorance. It doesn't seem likely a catcher or an infielder are doctoring the balls. Those guys have to get rid of the ball quickly and throw accurately. You get a SS who has been messing around with pine tar or whatever sticky substance they use and he has some on his hands and throws to 1st and the ball breaks like crazy. I would think that's less than ideal. A few years ago it seemed pitchers would spray on sunscreen and then use that to make the grip more tacky. It works too cause a few years ago I put sunscreen on before a game and then when I grabbed my bat my hands made it sticky.

    I'd like to see umpires do this to Astros players. Frisk them like Frank Drebin did in The Naked Gun. I suppose they do have the power to search pitchers for illegal substances. But the other manager has to protest first and his pitchers better have clean hands - literally and figuratively - too.

    I have no doubt that he might have, but I can see Bauer doing it as an experiment to prove a point. The data on that was from September starts when they were out of it, right?
    Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

    Trevor Bauer
    @BauerOutage
    I’ve been publicly critical of Rob Manfred before, but I have to give him props. He said he’d meet with any players who had further questions and he was a man of his word this morning. We had a very productive meeting about a wide range of topics.

    I know a lot of people don't like Bauer but he makes baseball and my Cincinnati Reds way more interesting.

    I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

    Lord help the player(s) who get hurt or come down sick afterwards.

    For anyone wondering what the situation is for players at this moment, this is a great video.

    Most of the answers are what we expected, "we don't know, just waiting for more information".

    Best part was them referring to him as "The Cleveland Red".
