I will have more stuff on the site after I talk to some people to gather a little more information on some of the guys that are "missing" from the roster. But I should note that beginning in 2019 the Reds did cut back on the number of players they invited to Goodyear for actual spring training compared to the past. In the past you would get a lot more guys that were almost for sure staying back for extended spring training rather than playing for a job in full-season ball. That's not really the case as much the last two years.

No. But they do get big league meal money, and a few days of that is a difference maker for them.

Doug, been meaning to ask you... you see the quote from Daytona owner about how having an 80 game season made a lot of sense?

I saw the quote. I don't remember who it was from, though - but I do know that Daytona's got three owners. I'm not entirely sure who said it - it's been a month or two since that came out if my memory serves me on this one - and I wonder a little bit about the context of it all, too. That felt a little bit more like a "if we lose the affiliation maybe this is how we could still do professional baseball".

I had more of a "we could save money if we only played Thursday thru Sunday and Mon-Wed were camp days" vibe....

Could definitely be both - if they have to take on paying players/coaches/scouts because they lose their affiliation, they're going to have to save money somewhere....

I meant with affiliation. That FSL might go to 4 games a week and camp days the other 3. A lot to shake out.......

Unless every other level also did that, it's a non-starter. And since that's not going to happen, this is a non-starter.
